KO Fights Back, UPDATED.
Told that the McCain people deny any changes to Palin's script, Olbermann took some relish with his response:
From: Keith Olbermann
Subject: Re: On the old record
Date: November 3, 2008 11:26:38 AM ESTYour first commenter has it right on about Palin changing lines. I have (drum roll please) evidence of the line change!
I can now present it and shout my favorite Thurber line: "perhaps THIS will refresh your memory!"
UPDATE: Tucker Eskew weighs in: "Completely false. No script like that, no writer's suggestion, nothing like that happened."
Whatever else he's up to, Olbermann will have much of the blogosphere's attention tonight.
Also should note that this is not, let's say, the most pressing issue McCain staff is addressing today. I've just managed to catch them at the right time -- and in the right mood -- to respond. Salter also wanted me to make sure to tell people that he thought the McCain sketches were hilarious, too, and that talking about the KO bit was simply Sunday ayem conversation, not "our goddamn last 48 hours strategy."
And KO's own take here.

1
Way to go SG you know our guy.
-
2
AMC,
.
Call me confused, but how is fighting with KO the day before the election helping the McCain camp again? -
3
How to create must-see TeeVee.....
-
4
Mark Salter not too bright?
-
5
LMAO, what does it mean exactly when the day before an election the McCain camp is picking fights with Keith Olbermann?
-
6
Our number five story on Countdown – Sarah Palin meets Klondor in a Stone Circle Death Match!
-
7
Oh, listen to her! Rowrrrr! You go, Olbergirl!
-
8
Oh I get it -they are setting up the multiple fall guy strategy.
.
1-It's Palin's (the diva and whack job)fault.
2-It's Olberman's (the biased left wing media's)fault.
3-It's ___________(fill in the blank anybody but McCain's) fault. -
9
Freakin' mø∆€®å†!øn.
-
10
Keith Olbermann has a piece about this whole episode on Daily Kos right now.
-
11
LOL tell KO I said thanks for the h/t AMC. I feel so "special"
-
12
2008-the year the best run campaign ever ran against the worse run campaign ever.
-
13
1 day to go and the McCain campaign is reprising the Monty Python argument sketch. "You changed the line!" "No we didn't". "Yes you did." "No we didn't." "Did." "Didn't." "This isn't relevant political discourse on the eve of one of the most important elections in US history, this is just mindless contradiction on a trifling matter." (pause) "Communist."
-
14
This is why I don't care for Olbermann - he makes mountains out of mole hills, which is fine except it cheapens the mountains. And there are lots of mountains. A fight over whether or not Sarah Palin dropped a line on a skit on late-night teevee show is what we're all in a tizzy about? Wow, must not be anything else of significance happening in the world, huh?
-
15
Also, Mr. Salter is lying through his teeth and I even have physical evidence of the line change, which I'll show on the program tonight
As I said. I never watch TeeVee but this would almost be enough to create an exception.
-
16
Now the tension when Tina Fey walked by Palin in the "press conference" skit totally make sense. Fey's one of the best writers on television and Palin dissed her line. Thanks KO - trivial but amusing.
-
17
We're done...
.
Slowhand wins the thread! -
18
@billiecat - Exactly. If an asteroid were set to destroy the earth tomorrow, Olbermann would lead with how O'Reilly had downplayed the likelihood last week.
-
19
dunedweller - I thought Fey saying she wanted to be "done playing this lady Nov. 5" was more than enough to explain that.
-
20
I have (drum roll please) evidence of the line change!
.
Unfortunately, though, we live in a time that the importance of evidence in politics has to be defended. Where's the importance of evidence when there's a culture war to carry out? It's pretty wacky times... -
21
billiecat,
.
I agree that Olbermann is over the top but I would have to say that Mark Salter made this an issue not Olbermann. Most pr people know that sometimes the best response is no response at all. But Mark Salter fancies himself a tough guy and loves to cuss at people in these last few days as if he is some kind of thug or something. It really shows what kind of rank amateurs McCain surrounded himself with. The greatest thing about Karl Rove is you never saw him and never heard from him, he never pounded his chest or was full of bluster. He simply went about his job of quietly cutting the oppostion down at the knees and played the "who me?" role. Notice that you don't see Obama responding to every id!otic thing that Hannity says. Mark Salter just INSURED that KO will beat Bill O tonight in the ratings. Just not the smartest thing to do the day before an election -
22
billiecat: Pretty much. Hopefully her talent will rise above being forever linked to Palin. It's kinda cool though a comedienne will go down in history with the best of the political satirists.
-
23
sgw: You nailed it! However trivial and distracting this is at an important moment in history, the majority of commentary news viewers have switched to KO. Maybe a few of them are still undecided, and if so, being still undecided at this point make them so weird and random that one hit by KO could be their deciding factor!

I love Keith, and watch him somewhat faithfully, but isn't this just what Obama rails against when he says we're making a big election about small things? I understand that after a while you want to talk about some other things other than the fact that the McCainiacs are lying in almost EVERY ad they run, or that they're using fear and prejudice as their only argument at this point. I understand you want to spend a little time on this, Keith, but don't take it so seriously. It's trivial.

Maybe Affleck can take over Countdown? He was a lot funnier...
