Keith Olbermann on McCain Campaign Giddiness: They Have "Even Less of a Clue Than I Thought."
I reached Olbermann by email this morning to ask him about how it felt to be the McCain campaign's ray of sunshine. He responded:
SNL and my Football Night In America show share adjoining studios, so upon my arrival yesterday, awaiting me was one of the cue cards from the bit, with Ben writing of the sketch: "Keith - Remember, a) I didn't write this; b) it took years of study - fondly, Ben."
As to the giddiness: Honestly, everybody deserves a laugh but if on the weekend before the presidential election they spent more than seven seconds bothering with ME, the campaign staff has even less of a clue than I thought.
Also, what's this "about time" jazz? Since spring they've been trying to cajole, sweet-talk, bully, threaten, blackmail, and bribe everybody at NBC from the pages to the presidents to get the milquetoast coverage they want - especially to shut me down. Then McCain spoiled his otherwise impeccable performance at the Al Smith dinner with that angry-old-man bit about me. They have helped bury their own guy in the polls and helped me pass O'Reilly in the ratings. So, seriously, if they'd like to spend any part of the penultimate day talking about me I'll send them all fruit baskets of gratitude.
One last SNL thing: I'll be reporting the details on this tonight. ask them why Governor Palin didn't say her first line as scripted three shows ago. As they pulled back from the monitor shot of Tina doing the impression she was supposed to compliment Tina. Could've been a real rehab to her image - why'd she refuse?
The McCain campaign denies Palin called an audible on complimenting Tina. Mark Salter, who is the group's "point man" when it comes to SNL, responded via Blackberry that he personally approved all of Palin's scripts and "There was no such line in the script ever." What's more: "Keith olbermann. An angry man."

Hmmm Ill bet KO has proof of the line audible if he is going to bring it up. And thats what psychologists call "projection" what Mark "potty mouth" Salter did by calling KO an angry man.

Well, we are in Missouri and we don't see no reason for that McCain fella to be happy about what he has done in this election. We is going for Obama. ...............

Sweet! Can't wait for tonight! I can't get enough stories by Keith Olbermann about Keith Olbermann. If I want to watch people ma$turbate, I have a little thing I like to call "The Internet."

What's more: "Keith olbermann. An angry man."
.
Fifteen zillion pots call one kettle black. And hey, they started the infotainment arms race. And of course, it's not like there's anything that's happened to get anyone perturbed. And lastly, we'll see how many "angry" people show up tomorrow and we'll see who they vote for. -
5
pourme,
.
Did you watch the special KO did this weekend recapping the election from start to finish? It was actually pretty good. -
6
Yeah, I love "angry" coming from the McCain campaign, that model of even-keeled equanimity.
-
7
Angry Old Man v. Angry Young Man.
Too bad Olbermann isn't up for election.
I have to say that I don't care to watch Olbermann myself, but he sure does serve a purpose as a distraction for the wingnuts.
-
8
@sgw - These things are preferences rather than right/wrong, and KO is just too much for me. "Which of these stories will KO be talking about?" Easy. The ones about KO.
-
9
MSNBC is a memory for me. Comcast took it out my package. I am thinking about cancelling my cable altogether.
-
10
The thing about KO is that he makes me question how a right wing wingnut can watch Hannity or O'Reiley.
.
I'm about as bleeding-heart liberal as you can get but I can't stand his self-absorption, especially when he's bragging about beating O'Reiley in the ratings. I like the Special Comments, but that's about it.
.
How can anybody (on either side) watch these clowns? -
11
Honestly, everybody deserves a laugh but if on the weekend before the presidential election they spent more than seven seconds bothering with ME, the campaign staff has even less of a clue than I thought.
.
And, indeed.... -
12
"Keith olbermann. An angry man."
Takes one to know one? Beats me.
-
13
pourme,
.
No I was talking about a whole show devoted to a recap of the election season. There wasnt any ranting or anything like that. Maybe just a touch of snark but mostly it was all about the candidates from the primaries until now. And yes even Rev Wright was included. -
14
@sgw - I don't doubt you are 100% right; I just mean I purposely don't watch his shows, including this one, because it's not my cup of tea.
-
15
The KO sketch was hilarious. He can definitely be a bit of a blowhard, but he's also right a lot of the time. The cat thing was a crack up.
That said, McCain came off as more of a sad old man on the show than any skewering of his enemies. He was very funny in the first skit, but d*mn, it was anything but presidential. And it's pretty pathetic that the weekend before the election, they consider a funny sketch on KO as their only moment of levity. Sad.

I gotcha. I actually will watch even Hannity sometimes just to see how far he will go. I am pretty sure I will probably only watch Maddow after tuesday but for these final few months of campaigning I have just been kinda of flipping back and forth to see all of the different takes on the same bits of information. I also watch FoxNews so I can know what to expect from my conservative friends and be prepared. I am actually good with the talking heads having an opinion as long as it doesnt get personal and doesnt get over the top. I think KO lives to torment Bill O and they should just have a charity boxing match or better yet a charity MMA bout and get it over with. It would be the worst sporting event in history. Worse than even Ben Johnson racing a horse but at least it would have the potential to end that petty rivalry. -
17
The KO stuff is yet a periodic reminder of how cocooned the McCain campaign has been. They thought that everyone would fall in love with Joe the Plumber, and that "spread the wealth around" was sure to be the death knell of the Obama campaign. They thought that 'socialism' was just this terrible curse word, the worst thing you could call someone. They thought that everyone would reach their muskets as soon as they became acquainted with Bill Ayers. And now they think that most of America has an opinion of Keith Olbermann, beyond his role as sports anchor, let alone hates him with the intensity that right-wing political nerds do.

The republicans have been trying "angry" all campaign.
From Bush at the RNC "angry Left", endless comercials attacking Franken in Minnesota as angry, on forward.
.
That's one of the reasons BHO has had to be cool as a cucumber. One slip up and that's all the republicans and the media would be focussing on. -

Mark Salter, who is the group's "point man" when it comes to SNL, responded via Blackberry that he personally approved all of Palin's scripts and "There was no such line in the script ever."
If Mark Salter said something, it can't be true - unless verified independently by a reliable source, of course.

KO amused me when he interviewed Obama a few weeks ago. I thought he was going to ask Obama out or something. I think Obama himself was embarrassed by the chumminess and lack of questions with any edge.
Hannity is the same way, on the other side. Bookends, that's all they are. I'm not sure which, KO or Hannity, is more full of himself. (Okay, Bill O wins that fight.)
-
21
McCain's running 7 points behind in the polls the eve of the election (pointing to a landslide should it materialize) and his campaign want to talk about Saturday Night Live? Isn't there a grown up in that campaign room?
.
Perhaps that's their way of saying 'weak candidate, lousy campaign but we've retained our sense of humor.' -
22
AWWWW poor Megyn Kelly got stood up on Sunday from her promised Sarah Palin interview. At least she kept a stiff upper lip. lol.
.
-
23
I for one can't wait for the election to be over, just so that SNL can slip back into irrelevance.
-
24
'The most important presidential election in our lifetime' and the McCain campaign is trading barbs with Keith Olbermann during the last weekend before election day.
How presidential, ignoring the strategic prize for the momentary distraction. -
25
"Hannity is the same way, on the other side. Bookends, that's all they are. I'm not sure which, KO or Hannity, is more full of himself. (Okay, Bill O wins that fight.)"
KO is obviously full of himself. The difference is that O'Reilly is full of something else entirely.
