Amy, please help me out. i am just curious. From your posts, i have absolutely no idea which side of the fence you are on..do you favor the republican proposals or do you think they should push this healthcare bill through. Due to your professionalism as a journalist I detect no bias or favoratism what so ever as to who's side you are more sympathetic to. Your objectivity is stellar. I am sure since you are making fun of Bachman..there will be a similar post about Pelosi. Keep up the great work.

While I am no fan of the ramblings and rantings of Bachman, are you really that dense as to construe her speech as suggesting that our deceased forefathers are weighing in on this debate? Her speech, however magniloquent, was meant to imply that this health-care bill increases the scope of the federal government far beyond what was sought by the framers of the Constitution. Got it?

You seem to fancy yourself a journalist. How about providing an acurrate quote? As per the youtube link in the comment above, Bachmann said:

“The American people, our forbearers, generations yet born, unborn, are crying out to us tonight for us to preserve their freedoms.”

In addition to leaving out the words "to us," you wrenched the words "our forebearers" out of context to make it seem like Bachmann was saying that our forebearers - and no one else - were the ones "crying out." I suppose that sort of quotation could be technically defended if you had added an ellipse (...). You did not add an ellipse. Thus, you dishonestly quoted Bachmann.

Furthermore, even had you added an ellipse, your quote would be misleading (if technically "accurate") because you would not have conveyed the essential message of Bachmann's statement, which is that past, present, and future generations of Americans, given the choice, would resist the bill.

And this point leads me to discuss the next (and probably most) important flaw with your analysis. You have no understanding of figurative language. Yes, from a hyper-literal point of view, Bachmann's statement makes no sense and would invoke the fascinating questions you sarcastically raise. But of course, as figurative language - the mode of rhetoric Bachmann was demonstrably employing - the statement makes sense in an obvious way.

So basically, you misquoted Bachmann in order to make it seem like Bachmann was saying something she wasn't saying. And then you made fun of her for it.

And, given that such drivel passes for journalism these days, you'll probably somehow become famous or make money off of it. Best of luck,
