Michele Bachmann Announces "The Super Bowl of Freedom"

The tailgating begins today, at noon, when perhaps thousands of conservative and libertarian activists will walk the halls of Congress in protest of health care reform. Conservative YouTube populist Michele Bachmann described the whole idea on with Fox News's Gretchen Carlson. (Fun fact: Bachmann used to babysit Carlson in Anoka, Minn.)

Jon Voight is coming!

Politico's Mike Allen has more details on the planning behind the Don't-Call-It-A-Rally.

A "House Call" rally/presser will be held at noon today on the House steps of the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. Aides said they expect a large number of vocal "Americans from across the nation," including a notable Tea Party contingent. AT THE SAME TIME: “Patients First,” a project of Americans for Prosperity, has 25 buses from New York, New Jersey, Penn., MD, VA and North Carolina, bringing 1,000 people to the Capitol steps. In addition, organizers claim nearly 10,000 people will be making “house calls” to protest a dozen or so House Democratic district offices today.

“PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR BOSS DOES NOT TERM THIS EVENT A ‘RALLY'” -- Brendan Buck, Communications Director of the Republican Study Committee, e-mails House GOP aides about the “House Call” on Washington: [T]he event will begin at noon on West front of the Capitol. We fully expect it will bleed beyond one hour, but our stated end time is 1:00. There will be full press and a sound system for the crowd to hear our speakers. Members will gather at 11:50 in the basement of the Capitol, downstairs from the Crypt, so that they can walk together down the West front steps on the House side. Members will begin to walk down just prior to noon. There will be a stage at the bottom of the steps. Some members may stand on the stage, while the rest will fill in on the steps. We hope to have as many members as possible for a strong visual. There will be press and cameras just in front of the stage, and beyond them will be a good size crowd gathered on the Southwest lawn of the Capitol grounds. The event will begin with a prayer and the national anthem. … Please know that this is a ‘press event,' ‘press conference,' or ‘House Call on Washington' but not a ‘rally' or ‘protest.'”

That sounds like quite a rally they'll be having. I wonder how many people will show up at the protest. This release is so interesting I think I'll go tell my boss about the rally.

And I'll be heading in to work to earn a buck later, but please call it "fulfilling my divine destiny in the service of our great nation".

  • 3

If they outnumber the crowd that gathered on the Mall to celebrate the inauguration I'll stat re-thinking my support for real HCR. Otherwise, not so much.

  • 4

My event will begin in my driveway. I'll turn left onto the county road, drive down from the top of the hill until I intersect with the highway, make another left and proceed until I get to work and then make a right. I'll stop in at the office, talk to the boss briefly and then head over to the main building. I'll tell my crew (the other guy) what I want him to do and then settle down in front of the desk, log into the computer and start my paperwork for the shift.

I'll fill my Obama cup with coffee and place it to my left for a strong visual, adjust the security camera so that it doesn't see me scratching myself or picking my nose and then check my e-mails. It's good to be king.

I love it when she says, "We don't have the votes to stop this, but the American people do." See Michelle, this voting thingee is where we decide who goes to Congress, and good news! We decided to send a majority of Democrats to BOTH houses of Congress! Isn't it wonderful how democracy works? Now would someone please explain this principle to the Democrats?

Michael-Any truth to Michelle's chief of staff resigning because of her pulling many stunts.? Like this one.

  • 7

On the other hand, it looks to be a light day at the Social Security Office. If you have any business there today, I suggest you get it done while all the teabaggers are otherwise occupied.

People are dying every day without health insurance and this lady wants to pull publicity stunts. What is so American about letting the sick poor people who can not afford health coverage die? In Chicago families are living in shacks while their kids go to school everyday without any type of coverage. It is sick and disgusting that out of touch back woods bigots like Bachman would rather let people in the real world die.

Who ever casted a vote for this crazed lady should be put in the zoo and let the chimps out to vote next time. Maybe the chimps will give us a more humane vote.

If you're interested in a demonstration for the "other side", the Young Turks are promoting showing up at CNN headquarters in Atlanta, NY and LA with signs that illustrate the majority support for the public option, as indicated by every major nationwide poll. I plan to call both of my Democrat Senators, Arlene Specter the Dede Scozzafava of the Republican Party defector to the Democrat Party "Senator" from Pennsylvania.
    .
And, the junior Senator from Pennsylvania, Casey "what's his name". God only knows what he really does except shine Obama's shoes.
    .
Should you need phone numbers for either of these idiots in the Senate, please reference to the link below.
    .

    .
On another note. Democrats finally make some sense with their legislative proposals for Health Care.
    .
    See this....

    .
Now they need to also look at State to State sales of health care insurance. Then they will be up with the Republicans and their ideas for real reform.

rusty, get yer a** down to D.C. and support Michelle! What the hell is wrong with you? She needs you, man!

Snark snark snark is all I read in these comments, its like you guys don't see the relevancy in these libertarians singing "Let my people go".

    • 11.1

When they sing "Imagine", then I'll sit up and take notice. I challenge you to name even one snark you've ever read in these blogs.

  • 12

Did I miss-hear it, or is Michele Bachmann encouraging people to barge into people's offices? As if any of us would be let in that area anyway.

  • 13

We have our first eight protestors arrested today on Capitol Hill. But, wait! They're not Tea Partiers. A group of reform supporters briefly "occupied" Sen. Lieberman's office before getting marched off by Capitol police.

    • 13.1

I rest my case. So what Michelle is really advocating is for her "supporters" to get arrested while she sits in a warm studio crowing about how badly the protesters were treated. Nice.

  • 14

    And comedy will result!

Since Bachmann is such a favorite at Fox News, Rupert Murdoch ought to create a new comedy based on her antics for the Fox network. Maybe he should get Matt Groening to do an animated, "The Adventures of Michelle from Minny."

Victoria Jackson would be the perfect voice for Bachmann.

I love this woman. There are very few members of Congress more entertaining than Bachmann.

Read a great comment on this event at another blog:

The only person of color there will be Boehner.

"Fun fact: Bachmann used to babysit Carlson in Anoka, Minn."

And poor Carlson wonders why she needs Freud ..
MS, you'd do well in the trivia biz.

  • 17

    Aaauuuggghhhh!!!

I grew up near Anoka, Minnesota!! It is even scarier given I am close to Michelle Bachmann's age! I just hope I wasn't contaminated!

Glad to hear all libs dumping on Republicans and Fox and how the Republican party is becoming extinct. Notice that the election coverage on Fox had multiple higher viewership than the dim-bulb MSNBC and CNN including in the 18-25 agegroup.

Please keep the delusion and the arrogance, you will be back in Mom's basement in no time.

    • 18.1

Mom lives in one of my houses.

    • 18.2

Oooo, the live in Mom's basement attack. Well I'll have you know they don't believe in this "basement" thing in SoCal, so jokes on you, Pennsylvania.

    • 18.3

But, free, it doesn't make any difference who is watching what. The percentage of the country watching any election coverage is so small as to make it negligible.
      .
I wouldn't waste my time watching any of those self-indulgent, egomaniac, loud-mouthed pundits on any network, regardless of which political stripe they favor.
      .
And that's what a vast majority of the voting public thinks, too. So don't mistake the miniscule ratings of election coverage as anything meaningful. More people watch a "Dancing with the Stars" episode than watch a week's worth of loudmouthed punditry on any of the news networks.

    Cluster F*&k anyone?

  • 20

According to the DC Police, more people show up for the annual Capitol Hill Ice Cream Social than showed up for this teabachle.

  • 21

....do all the loonies have to make a pilgrimage to Anoka, MN once in their lives?

  • 22

Meanwhile, on CNBC, I'm watching Larry Kudlow having a serious debate about legalizing insider trading.......
