Expectations Game
It's not a sign of confidence that the DNC is emailing this link around with "Food for Thought" in the subject line.

KT, hopefully you're no longer traumatized by remembering political “food” with being stuffed to the gills on Obama campaign flights. (If you need to “talk it out” to relieve stress, we're here to help. Maybe writing it out, in posts …or books… may help. We'll read ‘em, but I digress.) I think the key elections are either locally driven or part of the GOP mutiny, esp. NY-23, and NOT an Obama referendum. In spite of Gingrich and Boehner's cautions, are you seeing signs of a real fiscal / biz vs. social / religious Repub. split? Even two parties forming? I hope the Dems just ignore the R food fight and just stick to passing HC and helping to create jobs. (…and did you put together an Octomom costume over the weekend for treats / parties?) thx
-

These are profoundly local races. Deeds has run a poor campaign. Corzine is not popular, but Christie is a doof. If there are any national implications in NY-23, they have more to do with the teabaggers, and the corporate interests behind Dick Armey than they do with Obama.
Not surprising, of course, that the Village would try to use these results to take Obama down a notch. But it is as big a stretch as the idea that Obama is "overexposed" or that his staff's accurate comments about FOX's agenda has been good for FOX ratings.
-
3
No, its a sign of sanity. Just because the media can't do anything without a group narrative they can all cling to for safety doesn't make the group narrative correct. For goodness sake, this is not the first election that Deeds turned out to be a lousy campaigner nor did Corzine just suddenly have a problem. He's been having a problem with his voters for a while now, not to mention the recent corruption scandal on his watch. But of course, if the media doesn't generalize then they don't have a story. It's safer to make predictions and provide analysis when everyone says the same thing, then no one can be criticized for being wrong. Let's not make media cowardice a Democratic problem too. Obama has enough on his plate he ought to not have to take on media insecurity too.

It is amusing to read liberal journalists who just a year ago had "tingle going up their legs", now say things like this...
."And if Jon Corzine's favorable rating in the Quinnipiac poll was at 38% back in March (near the height of Obama's honeymoon), and it's at 39% now, how does that say much about Obama and his popularity/presidency?"
.
Things do "change" alright.
.
Are things now running down your leg Karen Tumulty?
.
If so, you better snug up that depends a little tighter next time!!!-
4.1
...no love for Karen today, rusty? Or any woman (after #4 / 4.5 from KP's robocall post yesterday)? Respect, please.
-
4.2
This one should get rusty banned. It won't, but it should.
-
4.3
…Karen must have LOTS of patience to put up with us (same if not more for Amy and Jay), but still, such personal attacks are waaaay over the line.
-

If you look back over our political history, you'll find that no one has ever really kept the momentum after a radical change in direction.
.
It didn't happen in 1932, or in 1992, and it's not going to happen now, I think. There are several pivotal events coming up that will decide how the Dems do in the future - not these races.
.
The problem is that every journalist seems to be focused more on image than on content. The eventual passage of HRC, in whatever form, and the future of the economy as well will be what decides the fate of Democrats.
.
It would be nice to see some journalism that provides us with a view that extends past the smoke and the mirrors of immediacy and investigates what might happen in a time frame beyond the news cycle. -
6
Rusty are you really that stupid? Do you really not understand that you just made an argument for why Corzine's fate has nothing to do with Obama?
-
6.1
Oh poor Dee. I didn't say what I have in the blockquote, it was a quote from the link KT put up for us to read.
.
My comment simply points out how at one point the liberal reporters like Karen Tumulty can get all giddy and have a "tingle go up their legs", to now justifying a clear loss for Democrats a year after Obama's election by saying "it's not Obama's fault they all lost".
.
Especially when Obama gave one of his top advisors to Corsine, was in the State nearly as many times as he was campaigning for President, and Corsine is this close to losing. Please give me a break.
.
It clearly shows to me that even if Christie loses, the Obama love affair is over. Democrats will run like scared rabbits being hunted down. Blue dog Dems in particular will be very wary of Obama's continued progress to the far left reaches of the Democrat Party.
.
This is only good news for conservatives.
.
With all that said and done. 1993!!! 1993!!!! 1993!!!!
.
History does repeat itself. -

the liberal reporters like Karen Tumulty

LOL

Working the refs again?

I was just reading something the other day about Muslim extremist Pat Robertson... -

I know I'll regret this but...

"With all that said and done. 1993!!! 1993!!!! 1993!!!!"

Huh? -
6.4
My point stands. Regardless of whether or not you wrote it, you still point to it as a means to mock KT and in so doing you've mocked yourself because you are the one claiming that the loss -- if there is one -- is a referendum against Obama. Of course believing that in light of the figures you've highlighted is apparently the dumbest thing that has come down the pike since Sarah Palin decided to come down to the lower 48.

1993 was the year the wheels came off the Clinton bus, Paulnonot.
.
Then in 1994 THIS happened.

1993 was the year we got "Don't ask don't tell", Hillary Care was being tossed around very much like Obama Care is now.

All of it ending up in 1994 wtih the biggest blow out and Republican take over of Congress.

Spinning of wheels that would make NASCAR proud beginning BEFORE the election is over.
The jerk (not Obama in this insistence) to the left has people with voter remorse that is starting with the locals and would include Obama if he were running today.
Here is how Obama is not connected to these elections:
New York 23
* Barack Obama sent Joe Biden to visit.
* Obama's White House negotiated Dede Scozzafava's endorsement of the Democrat.
* Scozzafava and Owens both supported and campaigned on supporting the stimulus.New Jersey
* Obama sent his top pollster to take command of the race.
* Obama visited multiple times, including the day before the election.
* Obama is featured in most of Corzine's advertising.
* The Democratic Governors Association and DNC all pumped in a ton of money.
* Corzine ran on helping Obama at the state level.Virginia
* The Democratic Governors Association spent $4 million to get Creigh Deeds elected.
* The Democratic National Committee spent $6 millino to get Deeds elected.
* Obama campaigned for Deeds multiple times.
* Organizing for America sent a mail piece to 300,000 “surge voters”, or voters who voted for the first time in 2008, urging them to vote for Deeds.
* Organizing for America set up phone banks for Creigh Deeds.-

You missed all the liberal blogs like TIME, Daily Kos, and the email campaign by the George Soro's publicly held PAC MoveOn.Org!!
.
The "NASCAR" wheels of the Obama bus have fallen off indeed.
.
"Where's the BEEF!!!!!" -
7.2
I think the approprisate question now is who will Obama toss under the bus to make this seem somehow not his doing?

freeinpa,
As someone who lives in Virginia and very familiar with the Deeds campaign, I can tell you that the Obama's team involvement was very minimal. In fact, if you had been reading the papers, Obama's team was grumbling that the Deeds campaign was ignoring their advise.
As far as Obama's personal involvement, I did not see any hide nor hair of Obama until 2 weeks left in the campaign. And the Obama commercials came out only during the last week and a half.
Deeds distanced himself from Obama to appeal to rural whites, Deeds' base. It did not work. Obama's appeal is in urban areas and there was very little enthusiasm from Obama supporters.
Bob McDonnell, on the other hand, ran as a moderate and totally downplayed his conservative creditials. There was not one mention of any social issues by the McDonnell campaign. McDonnell told Sarah Palin he did not want her help and disavowed her robocall on his behalf. McDonnell ran on jobs and bi-partisanship. McDonnell's campaign was very Obama-esque.
The last two Republicans running for Governor ran on social issues and got trounced in the elections, even by the very liberal Tim Kaine, who was able to run his opposition to the death penalty (based on his religious beliefs) into a non-issue..
They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. In that case, Obama should be flattered that McDonnell did much to copy his campaign.
I can't speak for NY-23 or New Jersey, but Obama was not a factor at all in the Virginia governorial race.

I also said it then, and I'll say it now....
.Barack Obama and Rev Jeremiah Wright, WRONG for America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama sent his top pollster to take command of the race. -- LIE!
.
* Obama visited multiple times, including the day before the election. -- AND YOUR POINT IS!
.
* Obama is featured in most of Corzine's advertising.
* The Democratic Governors Association and DNC all pumped in a ton of money. -- LIE!
.
* Corzine ran on helping Obama at the state level. -- LIE OF OMISSION -- YOU TAKE THIS FROM ONE LINE SAID BY THE PRESIDENT this is clearly not the thrust of the Corzine campaign
.
Why is it that the right has to rely on lies, mischaracterizations, misrepresentations obfuscations etc. What is it about the truth that puts you at such a disadvantage?-

Yes Dee I can hear you stamping your feet. Take your meds lie down.

Not a very good sign of confidence either. Doing robocalls for the third party candidate? Are they kidding?-
10.1
No the Demo base is dumb enough to vote for Corzine so they are trying to diminish the votes to Christie. Nothing like confidence in the message of Corzine

Obama sent his top pollster to take command of the race. -- LIE!
"Every TV ad that Mr. Corzine puts on the air is being screened by the president's team. The governor's aides are giving daily briefings to the White House. Mr. Obama's pollsters have taken over for Mr. Corzine's polling team, and White House operatives are on the ground for everything from internal strategy sessions to obscure pep rallies with Latino supporters.
.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/25/nyregion/25corzine.html
.
No matter how you spin it Dee, you come up empty handed. Even taking a cue from Joe Klein and attempting to make the TRUTH out to be a lie only to say so to make yourself feel better is nothing short of the biggest laughfest on planet earth.
.
No Dear Dee. You lie. You do not support anything that you type on your computer. Nothing, nada, nil, Dee.
."* Corzine ran on helping Obama at the state level. -- LIE OF OMISSION -- YOU TAKE THIS FROM ONE LINE SAID BY THE PRESIDENT this is clearly not the thrust of the Corzine campaign"
.
See previous. The Obama Campaign of 2008 has been running the Corzine Campaign of 2009 since this past September when they realized how much of a risk this race if lost will have on future Obama plans.
."The state is one of only two nationwide holding governor's contests this year. And Mr. Obama's aides acknowledge that a loss in this deep-blue state would be interpreted as a rebuke of Mr. Obama, affecting his ability to pass major legislation and the public's perceptions of his party's power."
.
You should read this review of the political corruption and games that are being played with New Jersey politics, Dee. See how your beloved party is also backing Daggett. See how ACORN's sister organization SEIU is sending out ACORN staff to rallies now hiding the fact that ACORN is so tainted now that even the corrupt Democrats in New Jersey do not want anything to do with them.
.
But, I find that Daggett "a former Corsine political appointee" was really a political ploy to split out the votes.
.
Very interesting indeed.
.
http://biggovernment.com/2009/11/01/will-corzine-allies-steal-the-election-in-new-jersey-acorn-dirty-tricks-and-absentee-ballot-fraud/
.
I hope the good people of New Jersey were made aware of all this in time to cast their votes today.
.
God only knows that magazines like TIME, so far up Obama's butt would never run any stories like this.-
11.1
Corzine WILL win. This is after all, New Jersey. Nuff said.
-
11.2
Your argument, Rusty, would hold more weight if you weren't linking to sources that are easily identified as panderers to the right wing crowd.
.
The New York Times: Well known for having a right-leaning bias, it's a decent article save that it points out many of Corzine's troubles and failures, but lacks the same detailed information on his opponent. The piece makes it out that Corzine is dragging Obama down, but to me it doesn't make much sense like that, as Obama's not the type to get into fights he can't win, nor advocate on behalf of those who are seriously corrupt. Basically, I feel like I'm only really getting half the story here.
.
biggovernment.com - As if you couldn't tell from the url, the stories on this site are nothing less than fantastic works of political fiction, of mountains made from molehills. Just look to the right of the article at the bogus "poll" concerning Health Care Reform, or at the list of links to every major right-wing site in the book.
.
If ACORN's being pushed away, it's because it was riddled full of holes over a single staff member's comments - it's never been anything more than a community organization to enlist more voters, and the way it's been blown into this unrealistic "shadow organization" by angry right-wingers looking for an easy target to vent their frustration on is disgusting.
.
With all due respect, this site, and article, are textbook tinfoil-hat conspiracy sites, and have less credibility than the National Inquirer, Rusty.
.
On another note, stay civil. Smears and namecalling have no place in debate, and only serve to highlight your own pomposity and disrespect for both the article writer and your peers. If you intend to sway anyone to your side of the argument, do it with facts and figures from reliable sources, not childish taunts.

shurashin
Is this blog turning to comedy?
"The New York Times: Well known for having a right-leaning bias,"
This runs to the core of the debate of left vs right. If there is anyone without serious mental disorders that believes the NYT has a right-leaning bias either has never read the paper or is so far in the left wing nut factory that they appear to be right leaning.
And Rusty, please use only liberal approved sources you know how testy they get when reality interrupts there delusions.
-
-
12
It's not a sign of confidence...
More like a reality check that needs to be made by the media before they start pushing the right-wing, teabagger narrative.
-
13
Speaking of expectations, "conservatives" are happy that they might put Hoffman and Christie into public office? Too bad they haven't taken the slightest look at these two wackos in their zeal to follow the authoritarian cult against their evil librul enemies. Wait till the entire country get to see the guys in action...or handcuffs. More nutty, right-wing ideologues and corrupt hypocrites should be just peachy for the new Republican ascension.
-
-
14
One hopes that if a Republican is elected Governor they will serve out their full term. But I doubt it.

Like the ex-Gov James McGreevey?
.

God can only wonder why the good people in New Jersey will not vote for Christie after the last decade of Gay McGreevey and Corsine the Crook.

Interesting how Scozzafava is portrayed as a "moderate". She's liberal.
-
15.1
...she is? Details, please. And what IS a moderate these days?
-
15.2
And what IS a moderate these days?
.
Anyone from Newt Gingrich on leftward, apparently. -
15.3
Ask shurashin what a moderate is? According to his/her post the NYT is right leaning so that would make Saul Alinsky a mmoderate
-

spob,
If Dede is such a "liberal" why was she endorsed by the NRA? Of course, you probably think the NRA a liberal organization as well . . . .

I believe ALL credit for ALL Republican wins tonight should go to Sarah Palin!
I can't think of a better development for the GOP!
