UPDATE: And Yet Another Republican For Obamacare

Who knew there were so many socialists in the Republican Party?

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement urging the passage of health care reform at the national level:

“As Governor, I have made significant efforts to advance health reform in California. As the Obama Administration was launching the current debate on health care reform, I hosted a bipartisan forum in our state because I believe in the vital importance of this issue, and that it should be addressed through bipartisan cooperation.

“Our principal goals, slowing the growth in costs, enhancing the quality of care delivered, improving the lives of individuals, and helping to ensure a strong economic recovery, are the same goals that the president is trying to achieve. I appreciate his partnership with the states and encourage our colleagues on both sides of the political aisle at the national level to move forward and accomplish these vital goals for the American people.”

While Schwarzenegger is not endorsing a specific piece of legislation, this is pretty strong praise for the overall Obama approach.

I wouldn't exactly call Arnold Schwarzenegger a typical Republican in our current political climate. And once again, how many Republicans who actually have a vote on this issue have voiced any support?
    (Insert chirping crickets here)

  • 2

Arnie is yet another republican that won't be voting for the legislation. He's not going to face reprisals in the House or Senate if he moves out of lockstep with the party leadership in Washington. It is a positive indication that not all republicans put party line over the needs of the country, but until some of the ones who will actually get to vote on the legislation break ranks and put the welfare of the US first, it's pretty much just p!ssing in the wind.

    .
Shilling from the left, Karen Tumulty yet again attempts to marginalize the Republican position to reform health care with allegations that there are only a few Republicans who favor reform.
    .
When in fact, most all Republicans ARE for reform, just not the kind of reform currently proposed by the Democrats in Congress.
    .
One thing is certain, the liberal media continues to portray any and all Republicans as "evil" and against any type of reform, when in fact it is simply just disagreement with the current proposals.
    .
How do you sleep at night Karen? The lies and liberal spin you spew out of your keyboard is nothing short of amazing.
    .
Karen Tumulty is nothing but a Democrat liberal SHILL!!

    • 4.2

Thank you for replying Karen to comments, and for your non-denial of my claims. Perhaps one day you will surprise me and offer up a more fair and balanced "opinion", rather than just regurgitating Democrat and White House talking points.

    • 4.3

"offer up a more fair and balanced "opinion" "
      .
That made me laugh. I think what rustydog really means is that until you start quoting Fox "news" talking points verbatim you'll be a liberal pawn.

    • 4.4

Perhaps you should consider having your meds adjusted. You sound like a crazy person.

    • 4.5

The Republican position will destroy us. The Republicans are the ones that brought us to where we are now. Every time the Conservatives get into office in any country, they destroy the country's economy, its time to end that. Just because the Republicans talk a good game, doesn't mean they should be running the country. All they are is talk.

When the Democrats get into power, THEY pay off the debt, THEY improve relations with other country's, and THEY improve domestic issues.

The Republicans come into power, and suddenly we're at war with everyone, the economy is shot, and they totally ignore anything domestic.

      Enough of the Republicans.

Time to let go now moiraesfate, Obama has been in the White House with a majority controlled Congress for over 9 months now. Simply ask yourself if you are better off now than what you were before he took office. Oh that's right, as Saturday Night Live did an Obama expose', Obama hasn't done anything of substance as of yet. So far we can count Cash for Clunkers in his column of success, but with the recent sales figures for autos in for September, I think we have to take that one back already. But, Obama did help out the Japanese economy real well with our tax dollars.
      .
Do you plan to blame all the problems on Bush II for the rest of your life?
      .
Perhaps you can focus a little more clearly after Obama closes Gitmo as he promised. Or perhaps after health care is finally defeated and you see that Republicans were correct in their disapproval of the Democrat proposals.
      .
One day in your very young life, you may come to realize how terribly the Democrats over time have screwed everyone, and now we are left with the most liberal of all Presidents of all time.

    • 4.7

Have you talked to pluk? He thinks I'm an insurance company shill.
      _
That's a "shill-by-proxy" Karen. You shill for the White House, which is allowing the insurance and drug companies to write the "reform" bill itself.
      _
Indeed, this whole series of "Republicans support Obamacare" might as well be coming straight off of White House stationary. NONE of the Republicans you cite are currently on record as supporting any bill, all they are doing is repeating boilerplate about the need for health care reform.
      _
Basically, non-congressional Republicans are sending a message to the GOP in the House and Senate to make an effort to appear less obstructionist -- but nobody is telling the GOP congresscritters to support a public option....
      _
But the message that you have been assigned to get out is the one that associates the word "obamacare" with "compromise".

    • 4.9

Note*: "a proxy server (Karen Tumulty) is a server (serving the needs and requests of the Obama Administration) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers (other liberal media journalists). A client (swampland reader) connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server evaluates the request according to its filtering rules (what Obama wants you to say Karen)."
      .
With this definition, I do think pluk is correct.
      .
      Shill by proxy!!

That's gonna be a small party if the base gets their way and excommunicates everyone one disagrees with them on health care.

    KT:

I hold you have a strong grip on that straw you are grasping.

California with it monstrous budget shortfall is looking for any help from the enormous HC mandates that have been forced on Arnie from the Federal Government and the Democratically controlled legislature in CA.

PS You left out he is for tort reform which is the phantom part of Obamacare

  • 8

Man you guys make me laugh, good times.

Seems to me most Republicans consider status quo a synonym for reform.

  • 9

KT, can't you put this controversy to rest and simply tell us who you ARE shilling for?
My money's on the long-shot -- Lyndon LaRouche.

  • 10

I am happy to see some public dissent in the GOP. I think the saner one (the few left) have to be seeing the polls and starting to worry.

  • 11

Also it's kind of sad that stating you want to slow the growth in costs, enhance the quality of care, and improve the lives of individuals (without actually endorsing any legislation) is considered some kind of radical break with your party.

But considering the GOP's platform is to make Obama fail regardless of the consequences to ordinary Americans, then I guess Arnold qualifies as some kind of moderate.

  • 12

Republicans talk out of one side of their mouth about moral responsibility, then talk out of the other side of their mouth in support of the status quo. The two do NOT jive together.

Especially since Jesus would hate the support of selfishness that the Republicans show us all.

    • 12.1

If Jesus showed up today the republicans would nail him up in a minute if he started spouting all that socialist peace stuff he was famous for. Helping the poor! More leftist ideals that would bring down this great country of theirs and cut into their profit margins.
      .
Note to Jesus: Don't worry about someone betraying you for 40 pieces of silver. They'll do it for free because they love your Dad so much.

  • 13

Why are you bringing Jesus into this? We all know he was nothing but a liberal hippie.

    • 13.1

I brought him up in my post because I got into a rip-roaring, name-calling argument with my MIL's minister last night. I think I came really close to get him to drop the F-Bomb on me.
      .
When a person's face turns beet red and the veins bulge out on their neck, is that a bad thing?

    • 13.2

Well sacred, seems to me that it means his head is about to explode.
      .
And you are standing right there...

    • 13.3

And he was a big fan of Abortions as well. I must have missed that day in selective religious precepts class that liberals love to tote around for convenience.

  • 14

Not when it's your MIL's Minister!

    • 14.1

He brought up the birth certificate, socialism, the possibility that Obama is the Anti-Christ and topped it all off by saying that they held a prayer circle (jerk) for Fox News because "It's the only place real Americans can find out the truth". I called him a f'ing idiot and suggested he get a real job.
      .
I'm kind of in the dog house today. I'm glad I'm going back to work in a couple of hours.

  • 15

Good grief! That sounds like the kind of crap that spews out of my dad's mouth (minus the prayer circle jerk and the birth certificate).

I wish I could have observed that little conversation..it would have been funny to see the guy's face turn purple!

    • 15.1

sacredh: given your non-de-plume you go to the manger. The company is the best.

    • 15.2

bitterpill8, my screenname is a little joke. A very conservative friend of mine was sending me almost daily "news" items on The One and The Messiah before the election. I started signing all my e-mails to him as Sacred Hussein. It made him so upset that I kept it. I just shortened it a little.
      .
katydiddo, it was a sight to behold. It started out calmly enough but when he started telling me that I was doing the Devil's work for him by refusing to accept the truth about Obama, the fur started flying. It ended when he said that I was lucky that he was a man of the cloth and wouldn't resort to violence and I suggested that he was just using that as an excuse to keep his candy ass from getting pounded. I invited him to go outside and then the mrs made a suggestion that I go down to the library and have a drink. I'm much more afraid of my wife than I was of him. I do have to sleep you know.

  • 16

sacredh, exactly how does your MIL Minister square denying health care coverage to all, pi$$ing on the poor and needy and supporting the money changers of Wall Street with the teachings of Jesus? Truly the mental gymnastics must be mind bending.

    • 16.1

He seems to be one of those mega-church guys. I'm guessing he gets his cut of the tithes.
      .
The mental gymnastics are much less painful when there's a bed of money below you to break your fall...

    • 16.2

Not nearly as bad as the Olympic (oops sorry another losing Obama proposition) gymnastics liberals go through with regularity:

No death penalty for murders who have reneged on their membership in the human race but front and center to kill the unborn.

Damn Wall Street for earning a profit but buck up for ACORN because they help the poor (at least in liberals minds) while stealing millions and breaking countless laws.

Jail Karl Rove for no crime but aw shucks let bygones be bygones with Roman Polanski - It wasn't rape rape.

Please sit down and take your meds before you hurt yourself tripping over your own insanity.

    • 16.3

queencersei, My guess is the minister like many republicans believes that helping the poor and needy must be done through nonprofits (which can actually be quite profitable for some people) rather than the government.

    • 16.4

Not a mega church at all. It's one of those little rascist jobs with an all white congregation that has an average age of dead. They swear up and down that they don't have a rascist bone in their bodies BUT that all those OTHER people are ruining our country. I blocked out Fox news on the Dish and followed that with blocking the religious channels. I offered to unblock them if my MIL would pay half the cable bill. Until that happens, she can watch one of the other 250 channels we get.
      .
queencersei, they're against any kind of aid to anyone that doesn't share their beliefs and address. I'm borderline hillbilly, but they're banjo picking halfwits.

  • 17

    Sane Republicans: "We're for ObamaCare."

    Swampland Republican commenters: "Waaaaahhhh!"

  • 18

Don't mind freeinpa, she got her lunch handed to her in a previous thread -- and all because the information she spouts doesn't ever seem to back up her points. Those studies and facts and citations and URLs are pesky and annoying to her, I'm sure. She's obviously smarting... or her seething hatred of liberals is giving her the vapors. Bless her.

  • 19

Wow freeinpa. Maybe you should read my comments a little more carefully. I can't remember ever voicing support for Polanski, Wall Street, ACORN or Obama's lobbying efforts regarding the Olympics. Try some duct tape to fix your mental antenna. You're picking up some cross signals.

  • 20

Not to mention, freeinpa, since when did Polanski become a topic of concern to Democrats all of a sudden? And comparing Polanski to Rove is apples to oranges. Get a little side tracked, did we?

And what a GREAT idea to focus on Acorn, while Wall Street single handedly brings down the economy of entire country. Because Wall Street HASN'T stolen millions of dollars and broken countless laws? Where have you been?

    • 20.1

"Comparing Polanski to Rove is apples to oranges.

Exactly! Polanski belongs in prison; Rove belongs on Devil's Island.

    • 20.2

      slowp

Slow Aptly named I might add.

"Comparing Polanski to Rove is apples to oranges.

Exactly! Polanski belongs in prison; Rove belongs on Devil's Island.

You are correct in one sense although you probably did not know it. It is apples and oranges Rove was never convicted of anything and Polanski is a felon in the run.

As you so quaintly put Rove belongs on Devils Island for Yes no crimes. But leave a felon alone- Typical liberal logic and lack of a moral compass.

    • 20.3

"Not to mention, freeinpa, since when did Polanski become a topic of concern to Democrats all of a sudden? And comparing Polanski to Rove is apples to oranges. Get a little side tracked, did we?"

Gee I wish I could put pictures on this blog so you liberals could follow along with your own nonsensical logic. Maybe you could get a couple of other knuckleheads and figure out that I was referring to other posts that referenced the supposed gymnastics conservatives do to reconcile church, taking care of the poor and making money. All I posted were examples of the twisted, amoral, illogical jumps that liberals make on nearly every subject.

And to prove how idiotic and brain dead liberal logic is you offer the following:"And what a GREAT idea to focus on Acorn, while Wall Street single handedly brings down the economy of entire country. Because Wall Street HASN'T stolen millions of dollars and broken countless laws? Where have you been?"

You immediately hang Wall Street but excuse ACORN. Those who committed crimes on Wall Street are or will go to jail. Knuckleheads like you will excuse, rationalize and ignore the deliberate avoidance of obeying the law by a corrupt liberal organization

Or in the where have you been category, ACORN extorted banks to make loans to people who had zero chance of making repayments and were part of that finanical meltdown.

Sad to be wrong, pathetic and without logic. Go back to your medication now..

"While Schwarzenegger is not endorsing a specific piece of legislation, this is pretty strong praise for the overall Obama approach."

It really doesn't seem like much, and the "Obama approach" is still quite vague, other than him letting the legislators argue it out, mark it up and vote it through until something arrives on his desk. In my dream scenario, Obama uses the "line item veto" enacted by the Bush administration to remove all the little crap amendments that have been tacked on by the republicans who will ultimately vote no against the final bill anyway.

    • 21.1

ah shoot, just read wiki and it looks like the line item veto never became law. Not that I supported it, just thought it would come in handy for the health care bill!

    • 21.2

When "Obama is Pol Pot!" is considered a reasonable critique, merely acknowledging that Obama is attempting to solve a real problem qualifies as wildly enthusiastic cheerleading.

Arnold said he "believes in the vital importance of this issue." Expect a denunciation from Steele sometime today: "I'm here to tell you that the GOP does not believe in the importance of this issue!"

    • 21.3

Plus the fact that the line item veto that was proposed would be for budget proposals and admendments. Not for specific legislation like the health care bill.
      .
Although I wouldn't put Obama in the same sentence with Pol Pot, I would put him in with the company of the likes of Hitler, Stalin and Mao. All revolutionary men of "change", and progressive socialistic ideals.
      .
Pol Pot was simply a murdering mad-man. But, Obama is only 9 months into office, perhaps we have that to look forward to as well.
      .
As the SNL skits get worse from week to week, we might see the death squads unleashed to squash any opposition to Obama policies.

  • 22

    queencerse & katydidd

Maybe you should put your arrogance on hold. Nowhere did I equate you with ACORN, Polanski or others. I was referring to the smug posts that had Republicans doing back flips in rationalizing liberals views of providing another entitlement in HC.

It referred to the complete lack of rational thinking and immoral decisions they make on nearly every subject all with the high mindedness that they are superior beings. Just like in the above posts about me.

When called on them liberals run to name calling obfuscation and just plain "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" routines

You will find that liberals 15 minutes of fame are done. Back to Mom's basement with you.

    • 22.1

Yeah, freeper, you kinda did. Not those posters specifically, but you did just try to slander everyone to the left of Pol Pot with the following post.
      -
Damn Wall Street for earning a profit but buck up for ACORN because they help the poor (at least in liberals minds) while stealing millions and breaking countless laws.

Jail Karl Rove for no crime but aw shucks let bygones be bygones with Roman Polanski - It wasn't rape rape
      -
I'm sorry. Did reality bite you on the a$$ again

    • 22.2

      ohiolib

Slander-words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another.

"Damn Wall Street for earning a profit but buck up for ACORN because they help the poor (at least in liberals minds) while stealing millions and breaking countless laws.

Jail Karl Rove for no crime but aw shucks let bygones be bygones with Roman Polanski - It wasn't rape rape"

Truth is a complete defense and by being a liberal you already have a damaged reputation. So no harm no foul in my post. Just your anger which means I hit a nerve. Reality Bites for liberals all the time

  • 23

"When called on you wil find them liberals will run to name calling obfuscation"

Interesting sentence, coming from a tap-dancer.

  • 24

I'm just not sure your comments about liberals were in your long-sought (and apparently elusive) "margin of error," though, freeinpa. Definitely beyond the pale.

    • 24.1

It seems I struck a nerve with liberals which probably means I was more than in the margin of error and if by beyond the pale you meant hit the nail on the head, I concur.

It seems whenever a mirror is held up to the face of liberalism they squeal about the unfairness of it all. The should be as careful in their characterization of conservatives. I know that's not realistic but one can always hope

  • 25

Not sure who is shilling for whom, but this seems totally right:

Basically, non-congressional Republicans are sending a message to the GOP in the House and Senate to make an effort to appear less obstructionist -- but nobody is telling the GOP congresscritters to support a public option....
