OT-if there is a topic, that is-but Minnesotans are running out of patience.
.
Minnesota Poll: Most want Coleman to call it quits
.
A new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll has found that 64 percent of those responding believe Coleman, the Republican, should accept the recount trial court's April 13 verdict that Democrat Franken won the race by 312 votes.

Only 28 percent consider last week's appeal by Coleman to the Minnesota Supreme Court "appropriate".

That's off-the-rails stupidity. Newborns have been routinely screened for metabolic disorders like phenylketonuria since the early 1960's. As genetic and metabolic deficiency tests become available, those screening tests have been added to the heel stick newborn screening test that is performed on all babies. Details on that here: Newborn screening - Wikipedia.

But the really, really batty insane part is the suggestion that somehow it is socialism to screen newborn babies for metabolic disorders. These are state programs, you doof. Each state has jurisdiction over not only the newborn screening policy, the state determines exactly which tests will be routinely performed, and the state health departments retain the data and the results as well.

How you get from state-mandated newborn screening for catastrophic but highly treatable metabolic disorders by state jurisdictions to socialism is a marvel of abject ignorance. I think it proves beyond a doubt that poor rustyreturns not only has never been laid, but holds out no hope whatsoever that it will ever happen in his lifetime. And that saddens me.

Rusty:

While I there are legitimate privacy concerns raised by those two examples you gave, I don't think they constitute socialism, unless socialism is defined broadly as government interference in private lives, which I don't think it is. Do you disagree? I would really like to try to pin this down as the definition of "socialism," why everything the Democrats do of late reeks of "socialism," and why "socialism" is so bad on its face that the mere use of the word is a slur have all been mysteries to me.

So just as a note from now on the last post before the weekend (unless we get thrown a weekend thread to scrap over) is offically open territory?

So it was actually quite illuminating to see what rusty thinks constitutes socialism.

Hey I'm still reveling in the backhanded compliment. I guess paying attention in civics class paid off for me!

I was not aware of this one, that was signed by George W Bush on June 2008. I also see it as further Government interference into our private lives. You know Cliffy, the "pursuit of life, liberty and happiness"!
-
*calmly awaits the explanation of how Dubya is not a "True Republican"*
-
BTW it's "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
