Obama Makes Unscheduled Stop
April 7 - Baghdad
Pool report 4
Air Force One landed at Baghdad Intl Airport at 4:42. Near the end of the flight, Gibbs gaggled. He said the choice of Iraq rather than Afghanistan was made for three reasons -- proximity to Turkey, the need to consult with Iraqi officials because efforts at progress there "lie in political solutions," and it's mostly about U.S. troops -- equally deserving of Obama's attention and appreciation no matter where they serve. "Our men and women who are in harm's way, either in Iraq or Afghanistan, deserve our utmost respect and appreciation," Gibbs said. Please check transcript. They had planned to helo to Maliki and Talibani but visibility issues blocked. He will meet with Gen. Odierno at Camp Victory (motorcade there); meet with troops there and participate in awarding of 10 medals of valor; call Talibani and Maliki; and depart. "He will speak with PM Maliki and P Talibani by phone because commanders on the ground determined weather prevents helicopter trave," he said.
UPDATE: Change of plans. Obama will meet with Maliki. The Iraqi PM is on his way.

Who are these jerks implying don't respect the troops? The left opposed the war idiots, not the troops.
-
2
I sure hope someone is taking note of how often Obama walks the walk when it comes to respecting, honoring, supporting our men and women in the service compared to Bush, Cheney, McCain and the rest of the GOP talking heads who have precious little to even talk about when it comes to supporting our current troops and our veterans.

Did anyone at Time magazine notice that the clueless socialist declared that Austrians speak the "Austrian" language?
-
A couple of days ago, before one of his gatherings of adoring, militant America haters, in this case members of the press corps, Obama declared: "There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian -- wheeling and dealing, and people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics.”
-
Expect ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, MSDNC, NPR, Jon so-called "Stewart" Leibowitz, Bill Maher, David Letterman, Stephen Colbutt, Entertainment Tonight, Extra, the Associated (with terrorists) Press, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Newsweek, US magazine, People magazine and Sports Illustrated to be all over Obama for announcing that Austrians speak "Austrian". Not.
-
Check out the press release issued by Bloomberg for the above Obama quote. Obama's dimwitted press release writers Edwin Chen and Hans Nichols provided the quote but did not know that Austrians do not speak "Austrian", so Chen and Nichols failed to mention that Austrians do not speak "Austrian". http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206010878&sid=asgB92NGuflI&refer=home

I guess it occured to most non-wingnuts that Obama probably meant to say 'Austria' and accidentally had a minor slip of the tongue and added a final 'n' sound.

Dee you are completely absurd. "Bush, Cheney, McCain and the rest of the GOP...". Give me a break you retard. It was you and the rest of the far left extremists of the 1960's that degraded the troops when they returned from Vietnam. It has been the far left Code Pinkers that disrespected the dead military men and women when they came back home for their final rest.
.
Are you and Ward Churchill going to re-write history yet again, and say that the far left is supporting the troops while the right does not?
.
Your far left re-write of history will not work now or in the future. Try try again.
.
And, if "Obama does not walk the walk" as you suggest, I do believe he is smart enough to know the American people will come down on him so hard his head would spin.
.
Now to the real point of this story, and the entire farce known as the "first foreign trip by Obama". How much is it costing is my question? How much does the already burdened tax payer have to pay in order for Obama to continue his political campaigning? Time to man up Obama. Hold your own administration accountable, and stop blaming all of the world's problems on Bush. Time to fix things instead of just playing the "I inherited this problem" card. Time to show the American people that we are not going down in flames with the current economic collapse and lead us into the future as all the Presidents in a crisis have done before you. Time to motivate people instead of blaming people. Time to give America the respect that it deserves instead of preaching to us how bad of a people we all are so you can look good to the Europeans you are attempting to impress. It's time to be a President. -

Nobody gives a sh*t about you or your opinion including the President, havent you figured that out yet? You are now the fringe of this country and our society. You are in the 18 percent of people who don't approve of President Obama. If you were any more marginalized you wouldn't exist. So keep up the ranting with your buddy textee while the world passes you by. The rest of us are happy not to have the blithering idiot in office that you voted for twice. -

Read it and weep Rusty.

So textee what exactly is your motivation here? Are you so embarrassed by the number of intellectually challenged individuals that man leadership positions in your party that you look for any comparison you can make where you can say -- yeah, Obama team made a mistake. Frankly, I don't know what that actually gets you. An acknowledgement that Obama is not perfect, oh no he's human after all, who would have guessed it?
.
Of course this does nothing to reduce the overwhelming number of just plain stupid folks that inhabit your side of the aisle. While you search in desperation for any example that might prove stupidity knows no politics are you finding it difficult to get around the need to depend on stupidity in order for most of your people to ignore the lack of reality that accompanies most of the pronouncements coming from your side. -

Rustydouche,
You complain about people calling you names and then address Dee as a "retard."
.
I hope you didn't watch the solemn and beautiful ceremony last night as the nation participated, via television, in returning a soldier covered by his flag on the way to his final rest. You would have dishonored him just by looking.
.
Hate on, sh!t-for-brains. Hate as hard as you can. Nobody cares what you think. -
10
Friar go blow it out your A$$ buddy. I could give crap what you think or feel. The fringe as you speak of is not on my side of the spectrum. Take a look in the mirror. Go back to Jeremiah Wright and his croonies and sing your hatred of America.
.
And to sgwhite. Hold hands with your buddy Friar, and maybe the two of you can skip your way to hell singing "Kumbaya".
.
The disgrace for our military has always been on the hands of the far left extremists, and I predict always will. Obama is simply crafty enough to know that in this time in our American history, he can't get away with disparaging remarks towards our military men and women. But, I'll bet if possible the whole lot of you would shout out your hate speech if you thought you could get away with it, just like your little name calling right here in the swamp. -
11
The people who hate the troops are the ones who send them off to die in an unnecessary war, justified through lies.

............Time to motivate people instead of blaming people. Time to give America the respect that it deserves instead of preaching to us how bad of a people we all are so you can look good to the Europeans you are attempting to impress. From NYT/ABCpoll
.........Americans have grown more optimistic about the economy and the direction of the country in the 11 weeks since President Obama was inaugurated, suggesting that he is enjoying some success in his critical task of rebuilding the nation's confidence, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
These sometimes turbulent weeks — marked by new initiatives by Mr. Obama, attacks by Republicans and more than a few missteps by the White House — do not appear to have hurt the president. Americans said they approved of Mr. Obama's handling of the economy, foreign policy, Iraq and Afghanistan; fully two-thirds said they approved of his overall job performance.
By contrast, just 31 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of the Republican Party, the lowest in the 25 years the question has been asked in New York Times/CBS News polls.

This is the last time I will even acknowledge your existence because really you don't matter anymore. It was a Republican that sent over 4,000 troops to die and scores others to get wounded in a needless war. It is Republicans who use the troops as an excuse to keep people from criticizing Bush's policies. Its Republicans who refused to allow pictures of those soldiers coming home because they didn't want to hurt their own ambitions. It is a loony far right family that goes to soldiers' funerals and protest because of their fanatical brand of Christianity. It is the right wing who thinks every problem can be solved by military force and damn who dies or whose family is torn apart by fighting these wars. You are a piece of sh*t and you don't deserve to ever get to talk about the troops. You use them to win political arguments but you don't really give a sh*t about them. You and your kind deny that there are problems with homelessness when it comes to veterans. You and your kind think stop loss is a great idea. You and your kind want to blame the troops for torture and everything else at Abu Ghraib instead of blaming the muthaphuckas who were commanding them. Phuck you goat phucker, nobody is buying your bullsh*t anymore. -
15
You are a joke sgwhite. Just a far left liberal troll who cites far left extremists tactics and try to pin it on Republicans. Simply the biggest line of crap I have ever heard except for the one occassion I visited to Daily Kos.
.
Go back to Daily Kos and spread your extremists bull-crap buddy. Maybe you can join the Army yourself and serve your country for a change instead of being like Obama and shirking your duty. -
16
Oh and by the way sgwhite. Jack Murtha (D) is a democrat, and he is the one that the marines are upset at for accusing them of torture in Abu-Graib. Murtha the highest ranking dem on the armed forces committee. Murtha the most corrupt Congressman in Washington.
.
I do not for one instance believe the troops tortured anyone. It is the far left extremists who expose that idea. The same ones that want to shut down Gitmo and have the terrorists living right next door to us in America. The same delusionists like yourself who wouldn't know right from wrong if it hit them smack in the face.

From the Red Cross reported in the WaPo
.
The International Committee of the Red Cross concluded in a secret report that the Bush administration's treatment of al-Qaeda captives "constituted torture," a finding that strongly implied that CIA interrogation methods violated international law, according to newly published excerpts from the long-concealed 2007 document.
.
The report, an account alleging physical and psychological brutality inside CIA "black site" prisons, also states that some U.S. practices amounted to "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment." Such maltreatment of detainees is expressly prohibited by the Geneva Conventions.

"Cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment". Does be-heading fall into that category as well?
.
Go have a talk with Daniel Pearl's family and see if it does.

I wonder what ever happened to the plastic turkey prop that Bush used on his Thanksgiving visit? Maybe it will be part of the illustrious GW Bush library?

The top Bush administration official in charge of deciding whether to bring Guantanamo Bay detainees to trial has concluded that the U.S. military tortured a Saudi national who allegedly planned to participate in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, interrogating him with techniques that included sustained isolation, sleep deprivation, nudity and prolonged exposure to cold, leaving him in a "life-threatening condition."
.
"We tortured [Mohammed al-]Qahtani," said Susan J. Crawford, in her first interview since being named convening authority of military commissions by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates in February 2007. "His treatment met the legal definition of torture. And that's why I did not refer the case" for prosecution.
.
Crawford, a retired judge who served as general counsel for the Army during the Reagan administration and as Pentagon inspector general when Dick Cheney was secretary of defense, is the first senior Bush administration official responsible for reviewing practices at Guantanamo to publicly state that a detainee was tortured.
.
Crawford, 61, said the combination of the interrogation techniques, their duration and the impact on Qahtani's health led to her conclusion. "The techniques they used were all authorized, but the manner in which they applied them was overly aggressive and too persistent. . . . You think of torture, you think of some horrendous physical act done to an individual. This was not any one particular act; this was just a combination of things that had a medical impact on him, that hurt his health. It was abusive and uncalled for. And coercive. Clearly coercive. It was that medical impact that pushed me over the edge" to call it torture, she said..

And as usual, you forgot this quote from Ms Crawford.
.
"There's no doubt in my mind he would've been on one of those planes had he gained access to the country in August 2001," Crawford said of Qahtani, who remains detained at Guantanamo. "He's a muscle hijacker. . . . He's a very dangerous man. What do you do with him now if you don't charge him and try him? I would be hesitant to say, 'Let him go.' "
.
In my opinion, one man's (or woman's) opinion of what "torture" is, is another man's (woman's) way of finding out the truth from ENEMY COMBATANTS.
.
Since Obama refuses to label them "terrorist" and "enemy combatants", then I will. If it comes down to a terrorist hell bent on killing innocent Americans, my brothers, sisters, mother or father, to hell with him and his kind. Do what you need to do! -
24
why is "lie in political solutions" in (scare?) quotes? Is it because you're not convinced that progress in Iraq depends on a regional political solution? or are just not sure until McCain bloviates a declaration on the matter.
-
25
.......Do what you need to do!
.
The reason they couldn't prosecute and possibly legally execute the evil-doer was because he had been tortured.
