I actually do think Team Obama thinks the House Bill is kind of a mess, but "kind of a mess" is an apt description of the House in general so no surprises. Jim Cooper is a douche, and that's pretty much that. You can print that, by the way.

While I'm no fan of Pelosi's, the idea that this is her fault is total BS. Obama chose not to negotiate with Pelosi first to come up with a united position on issues from which "bi-partisan" compromise could be attempted. Instead, Obama engaged with the GOP, and gave short shrift to the concerns of congressional Democrats.

The presentation of Pelosi as a "partisan warrior" is particularly non-sensical, considering how often she folded to Bush and the GOP. Only someone drowning in the Obama Kool-Aid could make that kind of mistake.

At some point, Pelosi's going to have to put the Country first. The idea that we can use the crisis to push through unrelated spending is one that needs to be addressed. Given the Republicans party's track record, its unconsiounable to give them a valid point of attack.

"Pork" is the very definition of what belongs in this kind of economic package. "Pork" is usually about creating jobs, and often about 'infrastructure' (the bridge to nowhere is a perfect example -- it was pure pork, but it would have created jobs and was infrastructure.)

If there is stuff that doesn't belong in this bill, its the tax cuts (extremely inefficient in terms of maintaining jobs and creating new ones) and the big national infrastructure stuff that will take years to accomplish that Obama supports. Not that they are bad ideas, rather they are not about dealing with the impact of the financial system meltdown in a timely fashion.

Of any Democrat needs to prioritize the country, its Obama, who has decided that its more important for him to look "bi-partisan" than it is to enact the changes in laws and policies that people want to see. Nobody gives a flying **** in the middle of a crisis -- they want answers and solutions.

oh, and here's the kicker. Obama never submitted his own bill. He talks about the "need for" a "Recovery and Reinvestment Plan", but he never sent a bill to congress for their consideration.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. The house did exactly what Obama wanted, the bill passed and it's great. Not a single Earmark, which is something that was probably hard for the house. I don't think Obama cares what "rules process" it got passed by, why would he?

You wrote a whole article claiming that Obama and Peloci disagree but you didn't indicate at all what it is they have a disagreement about!

Obama wants stimulus passed fast and the house passed it fast. It's the senate that is screwing everything up.

There are many places where I disagree with the traditional Democrat agenda. For instance I strongly oppose the Employee Free Choice Act. In fact, if it weren't for those pesky Death-Merchants, Warmongers, Constitution Breachers, Racists and Xenophobes, I might even be amenable to Republican arguments concerning Federal waste.

just FYI, since you are obviously completely uninformed, Presidents traditionally have submitted their own versions of major legislative initiatives to Congress.

Now, that doesn't compel Obama to do so in this case. But its pretty moronic to claim that Pelosi is "not putting the country first" because she submitted a bill different from "what Obama wants" when Obama never gave any kind of detailed plan about the only things he wanted in the legislation.

But what really bugs me is that Obama appears to be acquiescing and/or encouraging (even engineering?) the whole "Pelosi is being a partisan" attacks -- and while that may work in the short term for Obama's self-glorification, it will prove to be disasterous for him in the long term. Obama needs Pelosi to shepard his legislative agenda through the House -- and Pelosi may well wind up letting committee chairs have their way with that agenda.

plukasiak, I am aware of the legeslative tradition, and I don't mean to say Pelosi is unamerican or some such. Indeed, that's pretty silly. But so is blaming Obama for not following the tradition.

Can't be sure about the Obama fighting with Pelosi yet, but if so it is pretty weak sauce. Though I don't see either of them being petty enough to torpedo the other at this point in time.
