The key piece thing that Karen highlights in her article is who gets the office in the White House that Daschle was going to occupy. It wasn't Daschle's job at HHS that was significant, it was his presence in the White House.
_
(Oddly, Daschle was scheduled to occupy an office on the ground floor, where 2nd level national security/foreign policy people are, rather than on the first floor (with the Oval Office) or the second (where domestic policy offices are.)
_
this graphic (http://www.hlswatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/obama-white-house-office-assignments.jpg ) shows who has the first and second floor offices, and where they are located relative to the center of power (Obama's office).
_
My guess is that Daschle's office will be scooped up by the national security/foreign policy people -- and that if Obama appoints a health care czar, they'll be someone who will get one of the unassigned cubbyholes on the 2nd Floor.)

This has no relevance to anything, but as long as we're listing random celebrity encounters, I got absolutely falling down drunk with Dave Chappelle once. It was a blast. Cool guy, funny, and best of all, he bought all the rounds after the first.

I've run in to just about everybody in Santana, Wayne Shorter, and tons of other musicians. When I told my then girl friend that Eddie Money was coming in to the store, she said "Don't trust him". I told Eddie that and he said, she's right, I can't say no". It's Eddie Mahoney actually.

Joe Zawinul died last week. He was the greatest musician in my lifetime.

My claims to fame are that I waved to JFK and Jackie when I was 6 and they waved back. I shook Neil Young's hand because I won backstage passes and finally I have a crazy fanatic aunt who claims the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were present at my birth. I made the last one up. I do have a crazy aunt though.

Markopolos was testifying in front of a House subcommittee, and I've seen it covered earlier in the day, so it's not exactly under the radar. Tomorrow's post has a story indicating some angry tongue-lashing took place.
.
The question is, if there are charges against the SEC, who would bring them? What exactly would they be? And what would be the consequences?
