Mitchell is Lebanese? Oy.

You had to figure this was coming. The appointment of George Mitchell as special envoy to the Middle East was bound to cause some consternation in the wackier precincts of the Judeosphere because of two reason. Unstated: he’s a Lebanese Christian. Stated: he’s fair. Josh Marshall has found this nugget from my old pal, free-lance slanderer Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation league:

“Sen. Mitchell is fair. He’s been meticulously even-handed,” said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. “But the fact is, American policy in the Middle East hasn’t been ‘even handed’ — it has been supportive of Israel when it felt Israel needed critical U.S. support.

“So I’m concerned,” Foxman continued. “I’m not sure the situation requires that kind of approach in the Middle East.”

Actually, this is restrained from Foxman. He could have called Mitchell an anti-semite, as he did me. I mean, Mitchell is… balanced? That is really, really suspicious.

Here is what’s really suspicious: that the Anti-Defamation league allows this fool to continue to speak in its name. No, to defame people in its name.
