The Bidens
Joe is not the only Biden given to a slip of the tongue here and there:
The wife of Vice President-elect Joe Biden let it slip to Oprah Winfrey Monday that her husband had a pick of two jobs in the Obama administration.
Jill Biden said President-elect Barack Obama gave Biden the choice of being secretary of state or vice president. The vice president-elect tried to hush his wife as soon as the words came out of her mouth, with a loud "shhh!" that sent the audience into laughter.
The Bidens made a surprise appearance on Winfrey's show, recorded at the Kennedy Center for broadcast later Monday on the eve of the inauguration.
The vice president-elect said he only accepted Obama's offer to be his running mate after talking it over with "Jilly," his pet name for his wife. Mrs. Biden said she told him vice president would be better for the family.
"If you're secretary of state, you'll be away, we'll never see you, you know," she said. "I'll see you at a state dinner once and awhile. But I said, if you are vice president, the entire family, because they worked so hard for the election, they can be involved. They can come to our home. They can go to events, they can be with us all the time. And that's what's important to us."
Which brought this, um, clarification from Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander:
"Like anyone who followed the presidential campaign this summer, Dr. Jill Biden knew there was a chance that President-elect Obama might ask her husband to serve in some capacity and that, given his background, the positions of Vice President and Secretary of State were possibilities. Dr. Biden's point to Oprah today was that being Vice President would be a better fit for their family because they would get to see him more and get to participate in serving more. To be clear, President-elect Obama offered Vice President-elect Biden one job only -- to be his running mate. And the Vice President-elect was thrilled to accept the offer."
No word from second choice Hillary Clinton.

As I said in Amy post, Hillary better have some of that Obama Zen. Nice save from the staff, but that won't get the play the remark will!
-
2
What's funny is that Biden probably perceives himself to have been offered head of everything. "I was asked to lead Hamas and bring peace to the region, but at the end of the day they wanted an Arab."

"I coulda been a contender…"

Why did I hear a loop of the Married with Children laugh track while (unfortunately) reading this? Maybe this site could concentrate on more important issues than gaffes about palace intrigue.
.
And, maybe Karen Tumulty can read this with an open mind - making sure to read the original documents from hawaii.gov - to see why I call her a liar. -

KT -- you might have added the staff clarification -- but come on you know there is some kind of unwritten rule that above all else the media must instigate?
.
The msm is like the kid who stands behind you egging you on trying ton get you to fight -- did you hear what she said are you going to let her get way with that?

Dee:
I had the staff clarification in the original post. I don't think this one is the media's fault.
-

So what?
.
So what if Obama didn't give his biggest enemy in the primaries first choice of Admin positions. BFD.
.
I put this right along side warnings that he'd better play nice with the PUMAs, or else. -

KT –
You're right, to the extent you presented both sides of a non-story – particularly a non-story in light of all that's happening right now. I'm afraid this is on the order of who asked whom to the prom, and the play it's getting is entirely a function of the media.
.
I suspect you had a hand in bringing back our Preview, though, so one free pass for you. -

KT: I don't think this one is the media's fault.
.
Hmmm...if Clinton hasn't made a statement declaring that she is upset, then why bring her into this? Maybe Dee has a smidgen of a point... -

KT -- I don't doubt that both sides were presented. I'm suggesting that this is small bore when the moment calls for more. I'm afraid that politicians are not the only ones that will have to step up their game -- I'm afraid if the msm doesn't do a reboot the next post is going to be about the tipping point into oblivion.

Cliff: So what?
.
Exactly. I'm wondering when Obama will - in the media's eyes - stop owing Hillary Clinton for his spectacular success. -

Here is what funny about this none story story.
.
Everyone is just ASSuming that Hillary would have been second choice for VP. Nothing about the story makes that so. All it really means is that there is an off chance that if Joe went for Sec of State that Hillary might have been shut out all together. But of course it makes a more juicy story to make it seem like Joe getting his choice of job kept Hillary from being VP. Then again isn't it ironic how much import people were putting on the VP slot when Hillary didn't get it. Then we heard how Secretary of State wasn't that big of a deal up and until he named her Secretary of State then it turned into a story about her running a "shadow government". Blah Blah Blah. -

Signs the news items you brok on Oprah was a bad idea: 1) It was on Oprah.

While the circumstances of how this came out are bizarre and lead to speculation, the truth is that there was a well-known debate within Obama's team of where to put Biden in either the ticket or any future Obama administration. Obama respected Biden's desire to have a stake in foreign policy after years of influence (good or bad, doesn't matter ) on the issue.
Hillary's feelings on this are a different matter entirely...
-
15
I understand Biden also let it slip that he talked privately with the voters and they preferred that he run the country, but wanted it to be from the fatherly VP role. Also, Scott Boras said he could get him a guaranteed $5 million if he wanted.
-

Biden's mother just let it slip that Joe could have gotten that plane to Charlotte for an on-time arrival. USAir denies.

Here, let me make it easier for Karen Tumulty to issue a correction to her past false statement.
.
.
On 10/12/08, Tumulty said Actually, we do [know where BHO was born]; it's Hawaii
.
.
The closest we've come to "knowing" that are:
.
.
1. A picture on BHO's website; no court would accept that *picture* (i.e., a picture on a website) as proof, and BHO has not only never shown the original to a court, he fought against showing it to a court.
.
2. An ambiguous statement from the state of Hawaii..
.
Regarding the second, read what they actually said (PDF file). There's nothing in there confirming he was born in Hawaii; they only said he has a valid cert on file.
.
.
Now, go read the Hawaii law that allows those born outside Hawaii to obtain valid certs. That was added in 1982..
.
You don't have to be a legal scholar to see that BHO could have a valid cert on file in Hawaii but indicating birth in another state or country. That doesn't mean that he wasn't born in Hawaii..
.
However, it does mean that those - like Tumulty - who claim that where he was born is known are lying. -

Here we have another example of one of The Rules that govern how the media behave: no opportunity to attack, belittle, slander, harangue, or otherwise diminish a Clinton is to be passed up under any circumstances. Inventing, twisting, distorting, even straight reporting -- otherwise the last thing any of these people want to do -- are all allowed, as long as it's in the service of tarnishing anything and everything Clinton.
I'm curious to see if these people keep it up when she's acting as SoS, a position that is the face of America to much of the world. A few months ago common sense would have said no, that diminishing such a key figure at this moment in time is too foolish even for our media. But then again, our media people are pretty f*ckin' foolish.

This will give Maureen Dowd something to write about this week. It's like Hillary finds out one of her friends rejected the guy she is dating, before they started dating, but after she totally gushed about the guy to said friend. [insert tired pop culture reference+Clintonfreude here]

According to a guy in a bar, VP Joe Biden confided that he could and would hit that, but declined to do so. Miss Thang denied.

I had Obama's original birth certificate. teste stole it and photoshopped it to make it look fake. Obama's great Aunt Tilly also had a library book that was three weeks overdue. Why is the press ignoring this story?
-

You know this story is going nowhere when Tweety (he of the thrill up his leg) did not push this with his unusual enthusiasm for all things Clinton (in the negative mode, of course) even with the ever complicit Howard Fineman in place. All we have learned is that both Bidens can be indiscreet. From the excerpt I saw of the Oprah Show Biden looked like a guy who had just broken wind. His wife had already done that. Oh Joe woe is me.

ESPN: According to guy who sat next to VP on Amtrak, Biden claims to have been selected as replacement for Charles Barkley in Dwayne Wade's Fave Five. D-Wade denies.
