Happy New Year's Eve
It turns out that it isn't your imagination. 2008 is in fact an unusually long year. How do you plan to spend your extra second?
-
1
Does this mean all those calculations of federal spending per second were exaggerated? If so, I feel a lot better.
-
2
I think I will read War and Peace again.
-
3
Bashing the media.
-
4
My new wife and I will enjoy the extra second in engaging in double lip lock (what can I say, I am a hopless romantic).

OT: Glenn is a must read today for those who truly do care about the rule of law and how it does not seem to apply to our political elite.
.
The Bush administration has righteously decided that torture is such a grotesque and intolerable crime that political leaders who order it simply must be punished in American courts to the fullest extent of the law . . . . if they're from Liberia:
.
MIAMI (AP) -- U.S. prosecutors want a Miami judge to sentence the son of former Liberian President Charles Taylor to 147 years in prison for torturing people when he was chief of a brutal paramilitary unit during his father's reign.Charles McArthur Emmanuel, also known as Charles "Chuckie" Taylor Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 9 by U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga. His conviction was the first use of a 1994 law allowing prosecution in the U.S. for acts of torture committed overseas.
.
He also has an update already concerning Michael Mukasey's bizzaro speech at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The text of which is here. http://www.usdoj.gov/ag/speeches/2008/ag-speech-081216.html

Thanks Andy, now I had to spend my extra second re-swallowing my breakfast. Are you both wearing matching holiday sweaters too?
.
Ha, kidding, congrats! -

...or preparing for social collapse, not sure which.
.
Also, I've changed my mind...I want another surge in Iraq as well as Afghanistan:

Gunny I read that about Gonzo. The fact that no law firm wants to hire an incompentent attorney must be a real downer for Gonzo. I'm surprised he hasn't been made head of the Federalist society since he turned a blind eye to all those career hires that were made. BTW Happy New Year. You haven't started drink yet?

pintortwo -- Very very funny. We have eschewed the matching ensembles precisely because we want to prevent others in the general public from hurling. I think you have be at least 60 years old to start wearing those matching fleece pullovers from L. L. Bean.

@Andy#9: You must have missed Gunny's post yesterday...if he's posting, he's drinking. (My hero! Words to live by!)
.
@KT: Is it too late to petition the UTC to add the extra second NEXT year? That way, we could enjoy an extra second of the Obama administration, and not have to suffer through an extra second of W!
...thoughtless clods! -
12
How will I spend my extra second. I just did.
-
13
being grateful for a pause between these two years, to see if I can muster a little missing optimism.
-
14
Letting our teenage boys have a big Rock Band party in the garage / chill room and instantly regretting it. At least we can supervise in person is the thinking.
-
15
What else? A One Second Hate against GWB.

I'll spend mine hoping that next year responsible journalists will take it on themselves to publicly criticize others in their profession for journalistic malfeasance, bringing the kind of swift kick in the a$$ that incompetent members of other professions receive to journalism.
.
On that topic, Benen discusses how Mike Barnicle had an interesting comment this week on the modern media scrutiny that might discourage people from pursuing a career in politics. Steve comes tho this remarkable conclusion: "My impression is that voters simply no longer care, and as a result, there's little incentive for media outlets to pursue these "controversies."" and I am trying to take him apart in the comments thread. -

One more second of helpless laughter at midnight.
