Will They Be Flying Pan Am?
After a decade of using Bank of America travel charge cards, the Pentagon has decided to go with another bank.

1
military-'industrial' complex is an outdated term.
-
2
No wonder the bank bailouts take priority over the Automakers!
Those are Frequent Flier For Freedom Miles their racking up!
So muuch for 'An Army travels on its stomach'
-
3
They did it for the toasters. Gates is giving them out as Christmas presents to everyone in Grade ES-13 and above.
-
4
Ok let me hit the obvious low hanging fruit
.
Did they get the new Citibank cards as a perk from the bailout? -
5
If anyone was wondering John Brennan has taken himself out of consideration for a post in the Obama administration. The progressives/liberals myself included will be absolutely giddy about this. I doubt however that anybody in the media will report about their glee. Unless its to say we are petty because Brennan would have been the perfect guy blah bla blah

I wonder how much Citibank makes off of this deal in fees? Is there anyway to find out?
-
7
Less than the 400 million dollars they're paying to name Shea.
-
8
I called this one earlier
-
9
Less than the 400 million dollars they're paying to name Shea.
.
U read my mind. Again. -
10
You have got to be f--king sh!tting me.
.
Anyone? Does anyone want to see if there's any sort of line that can be drawn between handing Citibank $300 billion a week after Official Dunce Paulson says they're cool, and the Pentagon deciding to go switch to them?
.
For $300 billion, I think it would be worth looking into. -

“The way the new Citi card will be used is exactly the same as the current Bank of America card,” Nina Richman-Loo, DTMO's chief of special programs and outreach, said during a July 10 interview. “The cardholder agreement is the same cardholder agreement that our travelers read and signed when they got their Bank of America card.”
.
The change was decided a while back, it seems. -
12
Ok, everybody calm down a little.
.
This deal was made at least 7-8 months ago, long before the banking situation went south. They fielded it to a number of different banks, and Citi is the only one that bit it.
.
And as I understand it, BoA didn't want to do it anymore because they actually *lose* money on Gov't travel cards... there's no such thing as "interest" on a late payment--government policy forbids such a thing and shuts down the account if it happens.
.
My only concern is that suddenly government employees won't be able to travel if Citibank folds. This sounds like a non-issue, but government agencies rely on these cards to help with everything from conferences, investigations, trips to congress, etc. No card, less work from taxpayers dollars. -
13
They might as well be propping up our investment in Citibank by using citibank credit cards...
-
14
Is there any way we can keep Paulson from coming out and spooking the market every day? No wonder Barack's spreading his press conference over 3 days.
-
15
All right, maybe an overreaction on my part. But it still seems fishy that the Pentagon decides to switch to Citibank several months ago, never suspecting that it would eventually go "LOL whoops! We need $300 billion, guys!"

Over the last decade a majority of government purchasing has been done with Bank Credit Cards. Has any reporter ever done an investigation how much the credit card industry makes off of government accounts?
