Sarah Palin Plays (Inside) Baseball, Bunts
Sarah Palin spends much of this morning's interview with NBC's Matt Lauer saying she does not want to go back and argue about the "inside baseball" of the McCain campaign. "That inside baseball stuff regarding the way a campaign works on that level -- I certainly didn't get bogged down in any of the potential skirmishes or perceived problems," she says.
But then moments later, she steps to the plate. When Lauer asks her about the concession speech she had prepared to give introducing McCain on election night, Palin effectively says that she thinks McCain's staff made the wrong call.
S. PALIN: Somebody said no, they said that it would be unprecedented, that a V.P. candidates wouldn't introduce someone in a concession speech. And you know, all I could say was...
LAUER: Were you disappointed?
S. PALIN: A little bit because again -- not -- not for me personally to get to be up there on the stage and give one last speech, but to be able to say, "This is an American hero. Let us be thankful for what he just offered our nation. Now, let's all work together to support the new president.
LAUER: Did you ever consider going to Senator McCain that night and saying, "Look, you know, I'd like to say this about you, would it be OK?
S. PALIN: By that time it was, you know, literally walking -- walking down...
LAUER: So this happened in the last minute.
S. PALIN: ... the aisle, almost going up to the stairs, yes.
S. PALIN: And all I could think of was, well, even if it were unprecedented -- and I haven't done research to see if other V.P. candidates had done such an introduction of their presidential candidate.
LAUER: Right.
S. PALIN: But, you know, I thought even if it was unprecedented, so what, you know. Geez, let's do something a little bit out of the box there.
Later in the interview, she suggests to Lauer that it would have been better if McCain's staff had allowed her to give more interviews. "You can't be afraid of being able to seize opportunities, every opportunity you can, to talk to Americans," she says.
See the whole thing here. (At the end, daughter Piper says she wants to do it again in four years.)

I wonder if anybody is going to point out that Sarah Palin called her own father a liar during that interview. I think she wasnt listening and just waiting for her standard talking point about not having the clothes but her father SPECIFICALLY said she was going through the clothes frantically so they could return them. I would normally think the MSM might actually point that out, but seeing as how they are scared to be branded with the big S for sexism I doubt it will be mentioned other than by bloggers in their pajamas in their parents basement as Palin characterized them. MS did she accurately describe you? lol

You know Newsweek did really good reporting on the McCain-Palin dynamic. That they weren't close at all might explain why McCain and his people wouldn't want her speaking.
Yep, for insightful coverage of the McCain camp that reporting really helped. -

MS is this news? Does this have any journalistic relevance? this time for The Governor to sit with an interviewer is long past.
.
I can't view the video, but no questions about Ted Stevens? Voter turnout in Alaska? Her politcal misconduct as governor.
.
Leave this tripe to the political pathologists. Or have you become one? -

She has already said that Ted Stevens should be allowed to go to the Senate. She walked her "step down" talk the day after the election. By the way she is scheduled to do a press conference tomorrow. I am sure there will be yet another write up on it as well. As much as we hate to hear about this stuff its going to keep going for the next 4 years. She is the neo con Manchurian Candidate and they won't allow us to forget her. The WSJ today (yes I said Wall Street Journal) questioned John McCain's honor for letting the leaks go on without speaking out against it. This stuff is going to qualify as news probably at least for the next month or so because we have gone from having news coming in every 5 minutes to everything pretty much settling down to normal. -

Much as I can't stand Sarah Palin, I say let her talk. All it does is remind the rest of us over and over why she should be kept in Alaska. Her incoherence and contradictions are never ending. Palin seems incapable of stringing one structurally correct sentence together.
All of these recent interviews and all anyone can ask her about are the clothes and that one speech. I want to know her thinking behind dragging her kids across the country for two months. Why didn't they stay in Alaska with Dad and attend school? Why did she allow them to be used like that? What about the blatent lies she told on the campaign trail? What about how she lied about her own record regarding all those earmarks? What about her and her husbands involvement with AIP? I'm tired of these reporters letting her slide by why she manipulates them into rebuilding her image. I want her to answer some REAL questions! -

Is no one going to ask this woman a real question? I would like someone to ask her if she thinks every mother in this country should be able to bring their children, including three day old infants, to work with them.

She's a throwback to the '80s GOP machine.
.
We should be generous and allow her to amble around in the china shop at will... -

She's very good at laying the blame squarely on other people's feet. This could just be because I can't understand a damn thing she says too, also though.

As for real news....turns out Iran might NOT be angling for a nuclear weapon after all....

There are many reasons to be grateful for Obama's victory Tuesday night. I count among them the impending irrelevance of Sarah Palin. Unfortunately, like the crack addicts they are, the MSM isn't going to let go of the Hockey Mom. The once and future Queen of the Hate-R-Us contingent of the Republican party will continue to get press.
Here's a quick note on why she doesn't matter:
http://phd9.blogspot.com/2008/11/i-find-this-remarkable.html
http://www.gallup.com/poll/111838/Obama-Bush-Contrast-Popularity.aspx
So as the GOP licks its wounds and tries to piece together what went wrong it's instructive to realize that the hard-core who are unwilling to give Obama the benefit of the doubt only represent 25% of Americans. Next time to you think running a campaign based on hate, fear and lies is a good idea, you might want to think again!

After indulging in such important news, who wouldn't? -

The baseball reference is a good one because Lauer only asked her softball questions and she still doesn't look presidential and obviously lacks gravitas.
And I think her wanting to talk about McCain's being a hero is a bunch of hooey.
-

The only reason this is interesting is to highlight that this woman was one heartbeat away from being president had that ticket won - which was a longshot - but stranger things have happened (00, 04). To hear her speak of "doin' something out of the box" about a tradition that goes as far back as the presidency itself, makes you wonder what else she would have done on her own accord had she been VP in a spastic McCain administration.

By the way I am STILL pushing the kick Lieberman out meme. This time I have some help from thinkprogress.org though. And also click on the update at the bottom. Very informative

I wish to hasten along the "impending irrelevance" Paul Dirks mentions. Therefore I propose a moratorium on commenting on Sarah Palin posts, hoping that such posts will then wither away from inattention.
So -- see ya on KT's next thread! -

Next time to you think running a campaign based on hate, fear and lies is a good idea, you might want to think again!
Paul Dirks & Joe: In some ways don't you think it's good to keep this in the news so it solidifies the republican platform as such?
-

On why she's on, I'd again note the ratio of posts between this one on Palin, and Joe Klein's on Pakistan.

Please let her keep talking and talking and talking. Let the right wing continue their love fest. Let her continue to call out anyone who is not on her bandwidth a terrorist, unAmerican, etc. The more out front she is the more likely it is that what is left of the Republican Party, the ill informed, under educated, Deliverance branch of the party will rally behind her and make her their nominee in 2012.
Most of the Republicans I know are embarrassed over her nomination. They are starting to view Hannity and Limbaugh as "too far out there." They are becoming ashamed at being known as Republicans.
Remember she is a narcissistic personality. The narcissist is described as turning inward for gratification rather than depending on others and as being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power and prestige. This personality can not help but offend normal people. Her nomination in 2012 secures electorial dominence for generations.

To take a page from the Gov.'s script. I don't have to post here so I won't. MS when you have news to report, I will post. Paul Dirks hit a grand slam with his post above.
