Dingell must be the Chairman of Energy and Commerce. Dingell has been a tireless advocate for our environment. His support of the Clean Water and Clean Air acts made is possible to protect the EPA in ways never done before. He has taken a measured track between business and environmental activists to make sure we make progress on Global Warming while securing American jobs. Ignoring the auto industry when discussion Global Warming hurts the environmental cause and jobs in America.

Besides the environment, Dingell has been a tireless advocate of expanding health care for Americans. We are so close to making Dingell's vision of an America where health care is available for all a reality. Replacing Dingell would be a huge mistake when our government is at this juncture.

Dingell gets stuff done. In the last congress Dingell held 174 hearings, passed 91 bills, and enacted 27 new laws ranging from health care to the environment. We need John Dingell.

Thanks JNS for interacting. My only knock on Waxman is that I feel he could have done more uncovering War profiteering. I believe there are a lot of contractors who reaped large profits by taking advantage of little congressional oversight.

What a pleasure to have a President who knows how to play the game. Looks like he's a sharp as LBJ, but not anywhere near as brutal. We may even (*gasp*) see a Congress that starts to work again.

Andy from MA: Dingell will fight for it. His spokesman tells me that he has a surprising number of progressives lined up behind him. But, obviously, they're worried.

Dingell is out. Obama's green initiative is, arguably, the most important and risky component of his overall plan. He has faith that an investment in alt-energy ($150B over 10 yrs) will create new jobs, factories, patents and entire industries, thereby leading the economy out of its malaise. I imagine that the success of this plan will help define Obama's presidency. He cannot afford to have a chair of Energy and Commerce who is not completely on-board with the program.
