[...] Time’s Joe Klein evaluates Obama’s first press conference and concludes that he did a pretty good job. He notes a few elements, writing that Obama “did not stray from or change a single position that he took during the course of the campaign. He emphasized his previous stated desire for the passage of a second stimulus package. He was very matter of fact and not very emotional when discussing the economic crisis. There was no ‘Don’t you worry, now…’ component to his initial statement, which was a bit disconcerting–to me, at least.” Plus, “he was not lured into any speculative answers. He was properly cautious in response to the Ahmadinejad letter congratulating him on his victory and, by emphasizing his opposition to Iran’s nuclear program–and its support for terrorist groups–Obama conveyed a continuity appropriate for a President-elect.” [...]

RE: the Nancy joke. Who cares? The freaking guy is president elect - it's not like this is going to lose him some swing voters in Ohio. It's over.

I mean, even while this race was still going on, Drudge would post the most ridiculous things about Obama and it didn't change voters' minds - they still voted for him in record - RECORD - numbers.

It was a joke. I'll bet Nancy even chuckled at it - I doubt she takes herself as seriously as the wingnut bloggers pretend to. And let's be honest - all of their hyperventilating is faux outrage. They're just trying to fire up their listeners/readers.

And besides, these are the same arsenecks who called Obama a terrorist lover, an America hater, a communist, and racist, an anti-Semite, etc. We should care what they think?

98% of the electorate won't care one bit about this. It gives Drudge and Halperin a chance to put big glaring headlines up on their blogs and it give the folks on the Corner and on talk radio an opportunity to rant and rave about their new public enemy #1, but the rest of the country is worried about their financial security and 65M trusted Obama enough to lead this country through this crisis.

I can't believe the media is still obsessing over the most meaningless BS. Didn't they learn a thing from this election?

Oh gosh. Is this what it is going to be like for the next four years? Instead of focusing on the problems that we face, we are going to scrutinize every gesture and joke that Prez Obama makes? I may need to start stocking up on the liquor now. I really didn't get the joke because I am an 80s baby, but once the context was explained, I'm still missing the part where it was offensive...

And there are plenty of very intelligent and sensible people on this post. Can we please stop using Drudge, Limbaugh, and Beck as indicators on what's good and what's bad in the political world. Hasn't BHO's election proven that despite their collective ass hatery, they are becoming increasingly irrelevant? I'm telling you guys, they are nothing more than bullies on the playground, if you learn to ignore them, they will shut up.

> phuck Matt Drudge phuck Sean Hannity phuck Rush Limbaugh
'
I just thought it could bear repeating...
'
Though, on a more serious note, and while it's not likely to happen very much, Obama doesn't want to give any ammunition to the Repugs to ply the distractables - nice term, sacoharry - during the next election. Gotta think ahead at least a little.

I am with hickoryduck. I know we have all been hyper sensitve about gaffes for the last year or so because it might have affected the election. But the election is over now. Obama won. There wont be any recalls or recounts. If he makes a gaffe now its not the end of the world. Hannity Rush and every other right wing hack can play his gaffe on an unending loops but Obama will still be taking office in January. In closing phuck Matt Drudge phuck Sean Hannity phuck Rush Limbaugh and I'm out!

It only gets buried on Drudge. People in the real world are talking about the news, none of that crap. They live in their own little bubble, and no one wants to be part of it anymore.

See Drudge's current headline. This is why it's a gaffe. It gives the Punditry of the Right something to distract the distractable with, so they can go another day or two without having to take a hard look at themselves, their beliefs, their organization, and their future. It also is able to distract attention away from a very, very impressive first press conference. If the Right can talk about seances and "Obama's character showing through" for just one news cycle, then the real news of a very good, solid, informative, instructive, -presidential- press conference can get buried. Which is precisely what the Hannity's and Beck's of the world want.
