McCain Has Not Prepared a Speech
By all reports from the front of the plane, John McCain is having a good time today, hanging out with his friend Joe Lieberman, and various other notables, like former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and Florida Sen. Mel Martinez. They have been eating fried chicken, picked up in Tennessee with some peach cobbler. If there is a lull, McCain can turn to the book he has been reading, "An Army At Dawn: The War In North Africa 1942-1943."
One thing McCain is not doing is worrying about the speech he will deliver tomorrow night from the lawn outside the Arizona Biltmore Resort, the contents of which will depend on the election's outcome. McCain's friend and speechwriter Mark Salter does not like to plan too far ahead. "I don't work until the day of," Salter said, adding that the speech should not take him more than a couple hours to write. He added that he will probably wait until midday to get started. "It's gonna be a late night," he added, predicting a nailbiter of an election.

Well, he's such a good speaker, I'm sure he can just wing it. 'Cause, you know, winging it has worked so well the last eight years. This is truly the American president Americans have been waiting for!
Heckuva job, Mac.

2
P.S. Are we seriously supposed to be impressed by this?
-
3
Salter delivering the speech to McCain. I'm telling you, the guy creeps me out.
-
4
Uhmm I could write it in a couple minutes,
.
Congratulations Senator Obama on being the next President of the United States. To the rest of America I apologize for my behavior during this campaign. All of you especially Mike Scherer is invited to a concession speech BBQ at my ranch in Sedona. See you all there and good night.
.
There, done! -

I suspect that there's a fair amount of superstition involved.
And win or lose, he's still going to have to apologize for running the sleaziest campaign of the last 40 years. Unless of course, he also wants to run the sleaziest Presidency. -

#3, a lot of campaign types are Stans like that. When they first met in the 70s, Karl Rove was so gay for George W. Bush it was embarrassing:
"Huge amounts of charisma, swagger, cowboy boots, flight jacket, wonderful smile, just charisma - you know, wow," Rove recalled years later.
-
7
He's just praying his poll numbers collapse to the point a singularity forms and swallows the Earth, whole.
-
8
It doesn't take long to write: "I concede."
-
9
[...] DELICIOUS: John McCain’s enjoying friend chicken and peach cobbler with Joe Lieberman, Tom Ridge and Mel Martinez, and isn’t [...]

"It's gonna be a late night," he added, predicting a nailbiter of an election.
He better hope so, if he hasn't started drafting up something yet. Of course, I can see why he'd wait until the last minute - flying by the seat of his pants was so good for McCain in his Navy career, what with his three or four crashes, and his campaign suspension and Palin pick show how well that translates into politics.
-
11
He hasn't prepared much for anything lately.
-
12
"predicting a nailbiter of an election."
Is denial a symptom of Little Man's Syndrome?
-
13
...and then after the speech, he'll start preparing to be President.
-
14
Well, that fits in just perfectly with the rest of his campaign.
-
15
Salter: "I don't work until the day of."
Well, yeah. That's obvious to all of us.
-
16
I'm Sorry America for the dirty campaign I have run and making you listen to Sarah Palin for the last two months. I urge my supporters to disregard everything I have said in the last year and get behind our new president.
There done. -
17
Michael, I know it's pointless to ask, but have you asked team McCain why Sarah Palin did not release her medical records as promised?
Yes, I know they are going to lose, so in one sense it's irrelevant. But, they lied. What if she has had a serious diagnosis and McCain won, and didn't last a month?
There is only one day left. Could you please quit stenography and just ask why they lied? Please?

18
McCain is enjoying Joe Lieberman with peaches and a cobbler he picked up in Tennessee? How very .. maverick of him.
-
19
Perhaps Peaches the Cobbler has replaced Joe the Plumber in the Maverick's fickle affections?
-
20
Ah, so John McCain is Doing the Dole after all...
-
21
Peaches the Cobbler, Mark the Salter and Joe the Traitor. Happy days in the Maverick Bubble.
-
22
"the war in North Africa"?? trying to get caught up, I guess....
-
23
McCane can use the same spech he used after the 2000 election
-
24
McCain can turn to the book he has been reading, "An Army At Dawn: The War In North Africa 1942-1943."
My friends, I know how to win wars. I will capture Rommel by the end of my first term! (John McCain, November 3rd, in Arizona)
-
25
And Scherer has not prepared a story. How fitting.
