Keith Olbermann on McCain Campaign Giddiness: They Have "Even Less of a Clue Than I Thought."
I reached Olbermann by email this morning to ask him about how it felt to be the McCain campaign's ray of sunshine. He responded:
SNL and my Football Night In America show share adjoining studios, so upon my arrival yesterday, awaiting me was one of the cue cards from the bit, with Ben writing of the sketch: "Keith - Remember, a) I didn't write this; b) it took years of study - fondly, Ben."
As to the giddiness: Honestly, everybody deserves a laugh but if on the weekend before the presidential election they spent more than seven seconds bothering with ME, the campaign staff has even less of a clue than I thought.
Also, what's this "about time" jazz? Since spring they've been trying to cajole, sweet-talk, bully, threaten, blackmail, and bribe everybody at NBC from the pages to the presidents to get the milquetoast coverage they want - especially to shut me down. Then McCain spoiled his otherwise impeccable performance at the Al Smith dinner with that angry-old-man bit about me. They have helped bury their own guy in the polls and helped me pass O'Reilly in the ratings. So, seriously, if they'd like to spend any part of the penultimate day talking about me I'll send them all fruit baskets of gratitude.
One last SNL thing: I'll be reporting the details on this tonight. ask them why Governor Palin didn't say her first line as scripted three shows ago. As they pulled back from the monitor shot of Tina doing the impression she was supposed to compliment Tina. Could've been a real rehab to her image - why'd she refuse?
The McCain campaign denies Palin called an audible on complimenting Tina. Mark Salter, who is the group's "point man" when it comes to SNL, responded via Blackberry that he personally approved all of Palin's scripts and "There was no such line in the script ever." What's more: "Keith olbermann. An angry man."

I watch Olbermann almost every night and almost always love his show. I'd also agree that he's a bit heavy-handed, but certainly no more so than Bill O'Leilly. I thought the Special Comment parody was hilarious! I'll look forward to his backstory on Palin.

I've been watching Countdown for at least 4 years now, and I'm quite impressed that Olbermann's grown in popularity, if not prominence. I'm still baffled at some of the crazy accusations thrown at him ("Angry?" No, *I'm* angry - Keith is just excitable). It seems many of my fellow Americans desperately need a crash course in critical thinking and self-awareness, or in the very least to read the wiki page on cognitive biases.
Whatever Olbermann's shortcomings may be, he respects the intelligence of his audience, is passionate about democratic ideals, demonstrates independent thought, admits to his own biases and has been effortlessly willing to correct himself when he's been wrong. Plus he can take a joke, not to mention make a few good ones himself. Like him or not, the overall political discourse in this country benefits from having someone like Olbermann in the media mix.

sgwhiteinfla: KO has confirmed over at the Evil Orange that he does, indeed, have physical proof of the Palin edit, and will show it on today's Countdown.
mredct: MSNBC may be lost to you, but you can still get Countdown and The Rachel Maddow Show in their entirety from MSNBC's podcast page.
Enjoy!

Olbermann is an insane douchebag. Anyone with a college degree should know better than to watch tripe like that.

Man, Keef is even more humorless about himself that I'd suspected.
Go back and look at the tape of the Al Smith Dinner and you'll see that McCain's comments about Keith absolutely killed. In fact, he got the biggest cheer of the evening when he said, "It'll be a long night at MSNBC if I manage to pull this out." And this was from an audience comprised mostly of New York Democrats.
Keith lets us know just how he can't tolerate being made fun of when he says McCain's comments about Keef "spoiled" his performance. Especially when one sees just how enthusiastically those comments were greeted by the audience.

Jay and boisdale need to meet and have a discussion about critical thinking.
The whole KO bit was boring and I gave up on it. But, I do wish that they'd get Olbermann on SNL to do a send up of himself. *That* would be worth watching.
BTW, John McCain was great in his bit. The concept worked and McCain just did such a great job of joking about himself, his campaign, the situation in general and the rest. Do you suppose that Cindy brought her own "fine gold" for props?
The only problem was that they didn't save Palin for this bit. They should have had her come on with John and Cindy to make a whole team. But would she have been willing to plug the Sarah in 2012 Ts? I think she might just be a little too stuck up for that!

My fellow American patriot citizens,
whether Obama's grandmother died or not: don't forget that his aunt was an illegal alien and that he tried to bring his whole Kenyan tribe illegally into the USA to outnumber us and get elected illegally. Who knows if his grandmother was not an alien, too.
Tonight I will be declared president elect. I thank all Americans who voted for me. Those who did not will regret it.
Those who did not yet vote for me shall not forget that it's called The White House.
After my inauguration I will send that black Obama guy to his Muslim friends to Guantanamo and finish Iraq AND Iran. And I will raise taxes only on those Americans who voted against me.
Our black citizens will get the place in our society that they fit in. I promise to all Americans that I will bring back the good old times until 2016. After my second term Sarah Palin will be ready to serve you for the years after.
Watch my victory speech tonight on TV.

When Keith Olbermann did sports, I used to think he was one of the best in the business. Now, he is the Anti-O'Reilly. Just as I don't like to listen to politically conservative extremists because of their far right views, I must say that Olbermann is a complete turnoff for the same, but opposite, reasons. Heck, O'Reilly doesn't even come close to being as biased as Olbermann. Olbermann doesn't come close in the ratings, either, no matter what he thinks and says.
O'Reilly clearly states he runs his circus for ratings that translate into millions of bucks in his pockets. Olbermann's problem is that he suffers from delusional paranoia. He truly thinks all Republicans are pariahs and inherently evil. It is quite evident he is filled with hatred. Would Prozac and Xanax help qualm his bitterness?

The only other times that I have seen one person so enthralled with another person was in jr. high when a girl/boy had their first real crush on a girl/boy.
Olbermann reminds me of that jr high crush when he talks about O'Reilly. It borders on schizophrenia. He needs to get a hobby.
Countdown is nothing more than a showcase for his feelings toward B O'Reilly. And, that is just plain disturbing to me.

Just looked at the ratings for cable news for Friday Oct 31, 2008 and it showed ORielly with mover views than KO and Campbell Brown combined. Am I missing something or is Olbie's comments about his ratings about the same veracity as his show.

Keith Olbermann is an idiot. I take EVERYTHING he says with a huge grain of salt. To me, he's still the sports guy in L.A., so he should shut his trap about politics.
