Voting Problems
Election Protection has the nation's largest voter assistance hotline (866-OUR-VOTE). As of today, they have received 80,000 calls seeking assistance. Here are the trends:
--Broward County leads Florida in voter requests for assistance.
--Registration-related problems rank #1 in nearly every battleground state - hundreds of calls focus on that problem, most often in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and California
--Georgia voters are reporting more incidents of voter intimidation than any other state. Other reports of voter intimidation, scams or misinformation are also emerging in Ohio and Missouri.
--Florida voters rank #1 in requests related to criminal status and voting.
--Early voting problems are also being noticed, particularly Ohio, Missouri, Georgia, Florida and California

There's an important piece of information missing from this sentence. By registration problems are we referring to people trying to vote who discover they aren't registered or are we talking about people discovering bogus registrations?
Without that key clarification the sentence is almost meaningless.

Paul Dirks, As a general matter, registration problems refers to anything that prevents someone from being listed on the rolls so they can vote. I doubt elections officials, who are the ones who would discover bogus registrations, are calling the hotline in any significant number. They have their own chains of command. Bogus registrations are an election day issue mainly as an issue of voter fraud (that is, voters coming to polls to vote under an improper registration). I am aware of no reports of this problem so far on any meaningful scale.

MD I would have liked to give you some credit for reporting on a relevant story -- clearly more important than the long lost aunt since you didn't focus on the illegal leak angle. But I can only must partial credit because I only knew what the problem was because I already knew what the problem was. From you article there is no way to glean that these "registration problems" is a Republican assault on the right of citizens to vote.

MS -- did you not understand from Paul's comment that your post had a glaring deficiency. Obviously you weren't implying that election officials were calling the hotline. But by not elaborating on the facts you were in essence covering up the fact that Republicans are heavily engaged in tactics that are designed to prevent Democratic voters from exercising their right to vote.

You want it both ways Micheal. You want to get credit for not being a tire swinger because you are reporting on this most relevant story. But you also want to report the story in a way that is least damaging to the McCain campaign -- rendering the post, as Paul would put it, meaningless! -
