McCain Campaign Avoids Obama's Aunt

The McCain campaign has declined to make an election issue of reports that Zeituni Onyango, Barack Obama's aunt, has been living in Boston illegally. "It's a family matter," says Mark Salter, one of McCain's closest advisers, before declining further comment.

Well duh. It would just draw the attention from all the Loud Dobbs of the country about where McCain really stands on immigration.

  • 2

How do they explain Sarah Palin's latest.... um.... interesting interpretation of the Constitution, that the First Amendment is intended to protect politicians from criticism? For surely some enterprising young political journamalist is more interested in the Constitution than Guilt By Association Story Number 432.

    Mike...?

  • 3

It also would invite questions about which member of the Bush administration leaked this to the London paper owned by Rupert Murdoch illegally.

  • 4

What word put me in moderation? "Constitution"? Or "journamalist"?

  • 5

What about Joe McCain's illegal use of 9-1-1?

  • 6

"It also would invite questions about which member of the Bush administration leaked this to the London paper owned by Rupert Murdoch illegally."
    .
    trifecta:
    .
I think this is yet another aspect of "certain stories" that GOP pundits have put on 'relentlessly ignore'.

  • 7

Well, I concur that there would not be much for them to gain in highlighting the story, since McCain's instincts on illegal immigration are similar to Obama's anyway, but it is good on them that they are reacting this way.

So can we all move on now ?

  • 8

They freaking planted it. Don't you know anything?

Michael -- you are a complete disgrace. What do we have to do to get you fired?

  • 9

Did you not read the AP piece wherein it was suggested that this was planted by the Bush admin and/or McCain campaign?

  • 10

It takes Mexican immigrants to get the base whipped up into a hate frenzy. Kenyan immigrants? Not so much.

  • 11

@jarais - I don't know. I find that if you take your time and open your heart, you can find a lot to hate about all the peoples of the world. I also believe the children are our future.

  • 12

How do you expect to maintain any credibility in your traditional watchdog function when you don't even know when and how often you are manipulated. The Bush administration leaked this story on behalf of and to the benifit of the McCain campaign -- what difference does it make if they speak to it -- the goal was to get you to speak to it.

YOU ARE DOING A TERRIBLE JOB AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED

  • 13

    jarais,
    .
Areed AND it doesnt appear she was working as she was living in public housing. So since she wasn't "taking" anybody's job the Lou Dobbs folks will leave it alone. Now the WingNuts are gonna go batsht crazy over it. On Politico threads theya re saying Obama wants to spread everybody else's wealth but he wouldnt spread his own to help his family here and in Kenya. Par for the course stuff but stuff none the less

OMG.....Sarah Palin got prank called!!! A must listen!!
    .

MONTREAL - A Quebec comedy duo notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state has reached Sarah Palin, convincing the Republican vice-presidential nominee she was speaking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

In the roughly six-minute telephone interview released Saturday, Palin and the pranksters known as the Masked Avengers discuss politics, pundits, and the perils of hunting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.

"We have such great respect for you, John McCain and I, we love you," Palin is heard to gush to comedian Marc-Antoine Audette, masquerading as Sarkozy.

Palin doesn't seem to realize she's being tricked until Audette tells her at the end of the interview.

"Oh, have we been pranked?" she says. Seconds later, Palin's aide can be heard before the line goes dead.

Throughout the conversation, Audette drops plenty of clues that something's amiss.

Can sainthood for McCain be far behind?

Thanks, Michael and Jay, for putting up 2 posts on this silly matter instead of combining them into one as other news sources did.

This is so fascinating. I hope you both will many more updates on this game-changer over the next few days. That would be fantastic and valuable.

seriously you guys have to click on the link to listen to Sarah Palin getting prank called. She thinks she is talking to French President Sarkozy. And she doesn't get it even though they say some off the wall stuff.

  • 20

    SG,

It is real apparent she is not listening to what is being said. When he mentioned the documentary Nailin Palin she said thank you very much!!!!

  • 21

I said something in moderation. The documentary the pranksters mentions goes right over Sarah's head.

  • 22

Why would the McCain campaign have to say anything about this at this point? They already have you morons covering every angle of this deeply important story.

  • 23

@sgwhite - Sounds like a soundboard to me. Verified?

  • 24

"seriously you guys have to click on the link to listen to Sarah Palin getting prank called"

That wouldn't be serious journalism. Serious journalism involves repeating stories that were planted by the McCain campaign.

That and writing tortured obits about post-modern writers.

  • 25

Oh, John McCain is my hero. I will now vote for him.
