Something New
According to Ben Smith, the skirmish between McCain's advisers and their running mate that Karen noted below now seems to be escalating into a shooting war. I've never seen that before.

I guess there's only room for one diva at Camp McCain. McCain needs to fire the makeup lady, take the money, and hire a food taster.
-
2
All About Eve comes to mind.
-

So is she in Iowa because the McCain camp can't lose it anymore than they already have, or to start her 2012 campaign (as Andrew Sullivan suggests)
-
4
Ironically, she has seemed much more competent to me the last week or so (no, not competent enough) than she did in the Gibson and Couric interviews. There has never been a politician I had so little respect for that I liked to listen to so much. I can't figure out how she can make unconnected phrases sound like they mean something.
I still think she's in legal trouble in Alaska, and that her unusual theology and church experiences will eventually catch up with her.
-
5
I think she is not as stupid as she sounds. She is ignorant of many things but she is an excellent politician. This also is a theme btw. The person who got her involved in Wasilla politics, she stabbed in the back, and got his job.
She went after her benefactors in Alaska who got her the oil & gas job, and worked that into the governor's mansion.
McCain is going to lose. She wants to make sure that people don't blame her.
She is shrewd. She will let it be known that they could have won, if they did it her way. She is wrong, but that is irrelevant. -

John King is reporting on this too at CNN:http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/25/mccain-aide-palin-going-rogue/
It's amazing to see this happening so soon, but this trend in Palin's record was noticeable right out of the starting gate--in fact it was one of the most striking things about her meteoric rise. Her MO is to be picked by an older man to shore up his electoral strength, and as soon as she acquires power, she kneecaps him.
Sarah Palin is planning to be president, by hook or by crook, and she's not going to let a loser like John McCain stop her.
-
7
This is the wort run campaign I have ever seen. Fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy week.
-
8
I am getting moderated too. No swearing either. This is odd.
-
9
I think Palin is simply failing to realize that the sort of people drawn to her rallies only represent 20-25 percent of the electorate. She seems to be angling to be crowned Queen Of The Wingnuts.
-
10
Amazing that Sarah generates some much press. She seems to running a pattern of throwing each of her mentors and enablers under the bus after climbs the ladder. I've seen a lot commenters say that she's going to be squashed like a bug by McCain after the election. Don't bet on it. I think McCain will be watching the bus drive over him.
She's Teflon. McCain will be the GOP scapegoat.
Slightly off topic. Obama's timing on going to Hawaii to see Toot couldn't be better. The GOP has been extremly self distructive this weekend.

Dear Senator McCain,
Things aren't looking too good for you these days. I'd like to offer ten reasons why your only hope is to replace Sarah Palin--with me.
10. I own enough "nice" clothes that the GOP won't need to buy me anymore before the election.
9. I don't have a "First Dude" or children who need clothes.
8. I live in Hawaii, so I can be considered "foreign" or "exotic", too.
7. I can do my own makeup and hair.
6. I am a registered Republican woman.
5. I can utter a complete sentence without saying "you betcha", "gonna", or "real Americans".
4. I have owned my own businesses for twelve years which makes me a finance expert.
3. I spent more than ten years in tourism, so I have extensive foreign policy experience.
2. I was a police officer for eighteen years, which gave me comprehensive national and international security knowledge.
1. On a clear day, I can see Japan, New Zealand, and Australia from Maui.
Lookin' forward to hearin' from ya........

I just got moderated. I wasn't be snarky. Hmm let try something this is a test...GOP IS GREAT....
-
13
McCain was incredibly myopic not to see this coming. Did he not know from her "reformist" record that she will backstab other Repubs to get up another rung on the ladder?
-
14
Is this another shot across the bow from Sarah Palin?

With reports out today from Politico and others that all's not well between the John McCain and Sarah Palin camps and that Palin is going "rogue" because she's frustrated with how she's been managed, here's one sign that the Alaska governor is pondering her future fortunes.
Stumping in Iowa today, she broke with McCain on ethanol. He has never supported subsidies. But here's Palin: Now, that is nonsense, because we have the domestic solutions here, and John and I will adopt the all-of-the-above approach to meet America's great energy challenges.Yes. Those hundreds of billions of dollars being re-circulated here in America, that means harnessing alternative sources like the wind, and the solar and the bio mass and the geothermal and the ethanol, and we'll develop clean coal technology

Okay, the next post headline on this topic has to be "Rogue in Rouge".
-
17
"The Incredible Adventures of Maverick & Rogue Diva".... sigh, I really wish I was an artist. It's begging to be turned into a comic book.
-
18
Thank goodness they're training their fire on each other. It was kinda dicey there for a bit when they tried to stir up their hordes against the media, the one-man-one-vote principle, and the 80% of Americans who don't think that progressive taxation is "socialism." At last it's true-- country first!

It's as if we don't want to acknowledge the obvious. McCain is incredibly sexist. First, he believed that putting any woman on the ticket would secure the woman's vote. Using air guotes about a woman's health - second sign that he is completely dismissive of women. So why is there so much surprise that he didn't bother to vet Palin -- he didn't really think she mattered much. Frankly, Sarah has gotten this far be biting the male mentors' hands that feed her. But she wouldn't be able to do it if they didn't already underetimate her. McCain -- no exception.

PaulD,
When will the cable talking heads get that her crowds represent the dead enders who still think Bush is a great president? -
21
nibblybits - he had no time to see this. She wasn't vetted. He had no idea what her record was. On the other hand, he might have been right to recognize in her a "soul mate." He just didn't realize this meant she'd be just as difficult to manage as he is. "maverick" means "doesn't play well with others," and guess what - 2 mavericks don't play well with each other.

It's as if we don't want to acknowledge the obvious. McCain believed that putting any woman on the ticket would secure the woman's vote. Using air guotes about a woman's health - another sign of being dismissive towards women. Was the vetting process so shallow because it was seen as not mattering a great deal? Frankly, Sarah has made a career from being underestimated by male mentors. McCain -- no exception.

So far I've noticed that what gets me in the moderators box is any direct statement about the GOP, McCain, etc. so I can aske a question about his potential dismissiveness towards women but I can say an action is directly sexists or off I go into never never land.

Frum has totally left the reservation.

Dana Bash and Jessica Gelin (sp?) on CNN were talking about how out loud the back-biting has been. Lots of juicy dishing going on.
The GOPers are strictly tabloid these days.
(btw-I had to re-register with a new username- I used magisterludi in a past Swamp-life.)
