Maybe Joe is Bucking For VP

In our discussion of potential veeps for McCain Monday commentators Ivb, Kathy, rainbow68 said they'd like to see McCain pick Lieberman for his vice president. I was dubious because when I interviewed Lieberman in June he was adamant that, if offered, he'd turn down any offer of veep. Then I read his comments campaigning for McCain in Pennsylvania yesterday:

In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear: between one candidate, John McCain, who's had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace, another candidate who has not. Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not.

I know McCain's convention theme is “Putting Country First,” but, accusing your own party's nominee (okay, the party you caucus with) of not putting country first is a little extreme (It's like they're taking advice from Mark Penn). Lieberman didn't try this hard to get Al Gore's nod in 2000.
