Obama Leads McCain, Slightly

TIME's new poll out today shows Obama with a slight lead over McCain. The top line numbers are Obama 47% to McCain 43% with 8% undecided. The poll shows a significantly narrower race than Newsweek (Obama +15) or the L.A. Times/Bloomberg poll (Obama +12) or even the RealClearPolitics average, which has Obama +6.3. On the other hand, Gallup yesterday had the two tied. So, there's obviously a lot of discrepancies in the national polls right now. And, any way, national polls have never been a real indicator of much beyond momentum.

While we're on the subject of polls, the Wall Street Journal/Quinnipaic/The Washington Post have four state polls out today that are interesting. They show Obama leading McCain by 17 percentage points in Minnesota, 13 in Minnesota Wisconsin, 6 in Michigan and 5 in Colorado. Significantly, Bush won Colorado in 2004.
