In Defense of Grizzly Bear DNA Pork
Wherever John McCain goes, he rails against pork barrel spending, including the millions of dollars that the federal government spends to study the DNA of grizzly bears. "I don't know if it was a paternity issue or criminal," the Republican nominee deadpans. And the bear scientists never fight back. They have just silently taken the criticism for months--until now.
Joel Achenbach at the Washington Post has a great story today giving the other side of this grizzly story. Key quote: "Nobody got seriously hurt. We collected a ton of bear hair. We stayed on budget." Also there is a great illustrative bear rub video:
