Mukasey Says He'll "Take a Look" at Siegelman Case

Drip, drip, drip. In an exchange with Senator Chuck Schumer during his confirmation hearings, Attorney General nominee Michael Mukasey said today that he'd be willing to take a look at evidence of political interference in the prosecution and conviction of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman -- after Siegelman completes the appeals process. Mukasey is making a good show of promising to be independent from the Administration he's about to join. Sheldon Whitehouse, the new Democratic senator from Rhode Island and a whip-smart former U.S. attorney, has said he believes that Mukasey's loyalty is to the Justice Department and the law, not the White House. Mukasey is all but certain to sail through the confirmation process.
