Ladies and gentlemen, Michael "the level of casualties is secondary" Ledeen went to a Toby Keith concert over the weekend, and it proved to him that, damnit, don't listen to those phony troop-hating, America-surrendering leftists, TOBY KEITH FANS -- that is, REAL AMERICANS -- LOVE WAR. GRRRRR!
It's great to get out of the Washington culture of narcissism and spend some time with the rednecks, a.k.a. real Americans. And it's simply great, as the encores end, and a downpour of red, white and blue confetti covers the crowd, to see Toby say "don't ever apologize for your patriotism," and then lift the middle finger of his right hand to the skies and say, "F*** 'Em!"
Which, after a week of disgusting anti-Americanism in Washington [there was a big anti-war protest, and I guess, uhm, Congress performed its duties], nicely summed up our feelings.
One problem: Toby Keith also hates America. That is, if you believe, as Ledeen does, that being against the war in Iraq is the exact same thing as being anti-American:
Keith doesn't support the Iraq war -- "Never did," he says -- and he favors setting a time limit on the occupation.
You know, I have a feeling I know exactly what Keith -- er, "Toby" to Ledeen -- would say to anyone who tried to tell him that his position on the war drew his patriotism into question...
