Sunnis v. Al Qaeda Cont.
More good news about Sunnis turning up the heat on Al Qaeda. Money quote from the Mayor of the West Baghdad neighborhood where the battle is taking place:
"But if the Americans interfere, it will blow up, because they are the enemy of us both, and we will unite against them and stop fighting each other."
Again, let me explain why this is important: Not because it means we're "winning" in Iraq. We're not. But because if the foreign fighters are expelled or severely limited, another part of the Bush rationale for staying--"We're fighting Al Qaeda"--is wiped out. Additional clarifying explanation: And the Republicans in Congress who now support Bush will be more inclined to vote against.
And if, as the mayor said, the Iraqis would prefer us to get out of the way, and go home, so that they can fight each other...well, I can get behind that.
