Today on the Trail: Thompson's umpteenth Iowa trip

Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) embarks on yet another trip to Iowa today, making this at least the twelfth time he's been to the state since January. One of Thompson's campaign strategies is to visit every county in Iowa (there are 99 of them) before the caucus early next year. Today he'll host a public breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in Sioux City, two lunches - the first in Le Mars from 11 to 12 p.m. and the second from 12:30 to 1:30 in Sioux Center, and a meet and greet from 4 to 5 p.m. in Rock Rapids. That knocks Thompson up to about 30 counties he's covered, so I guess we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the state. I wonder if he'll have to time to campaign anywhere else...

Here's where some of the other presidential candidates will be today:

*Sen. John McCain is still raking in the cash as he continues his fundraising tour. Today he'll be in Chicago, Ill. hosting a $1,000 a person fundraising luncheon at noon and two evening fundraising receptions - the first at 5:30 p.m. costing $250 a person and the second will be more glamorous at 6:30 p.m. costing $2,300 a head.

*New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) will be in Portsmouth, N.H. delivering the keynote address to the International Association of Fire Fighters State Directors' Convention at 11:30 a.m.

*Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore (R) fundraises in Washington, D.C. He'll host an event in the Madison Hotel from 6 to 8 p.m. with an entrance fee of $199 per person.
