Today on the Trail: Romney revisits Iowa
TotT is a daily rundown of campaign events, compiled by Katie Rooney.
Gov. Mitt Romney (R) spends the day in Iowa, but it's no surprise given he's promised voters a good showing in the state's caucus early next year. Late last month Romney told the Des Moines Register he's planning to outfox the other Republican candidates for the nomination because of his strong holdings on the state, and now he's trying to make sure he can pull through. At 10 a.m. he'll host a "Caucus Coffee" in Clear Lake, at 12:40 p.m. he'll have a luncheon in Fort Dodge, at 4:50 p.m. he'll hold a press conference in Ames followed by an "Ask Mitt Anything" town hall meeting at 5:15 p.m. And I'm sure this isn't the last we'll see of him here.
Here's where some of the other presidential candidates will be today:
*Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) joins Romney in Iowa - he'll host a public breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Decorah, a lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Anamosa, and a town hall meeting in West Des Moines from 5 to 6 p.m.
*Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) continues to fundraise in Michigan. He'll hold a private fundraising breakfast at a country club in Bloomfield Hills at 9 a.m. with donations starting at $1,000 a person, and then he'll hold a roundtable in Plymouth at 11 a.m. At 5 p.m. he'll hold a fundraiser for young professionals at the McFadden's Restaurant & Saloon in Downtown Grand Rapids (cost - $100 per person, only $50 for those under 30). Then at 6:30 p.m. he holds a dinner fundraiser in Grand Rapids with a $1,000 a person entrance fee.
*New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) will be in New York City hosting fundraisers and other closed campaign events.
