Today on the Trail: Obama woos Detroit
TotT is a daily rundown of campaign events, compiled by Katie Rooney.
Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) stretches outside of the New Hampshire-Iowa-South Carolina-Nevada bubble that most of the candidates are focused on and instead visits Michigan for the first time today. He'll address a sold-out crowd at the Detroit Economic Club's luncheon at noon and is expected to touch on topics such as energy independence and reducing U.S. reliance on foreign oil. Later he'll sit down with Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, supposedly in search of the mayor's endorsement -- something that's already being courted by other Democratic candidates including Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.), who have already had a chance to meet with him. We'll have to see who wins Kilpatrick over...
In the meantime, here's where some of the other presidential candidates will be today:
*After spending the weekend there, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) remains in New Hampshire. He'll attend an assembly at Concord High School at 10 a.m. then do a meet-and-greet at Robie's Country Store in Hooksett at 11:45 a.m.
*Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is the keynote speaker at the Lancaster County Committee Dinner in Pennsylvania tonight.
*Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) hosts three town hall meetings in Iowa - the first in Davenport at 8:45 a.m., the second in Muscatine at 11:30 a.m. and the third in North Liberty at 5:15 p.m.
*Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) is also in Iowa - he'll spend the evening in Davenport at a barbeque dinner hosted by state Sen. Joe Seng.
