Today on the Trail: Sending out the surrogates

TotT is a daily rundown of campaign events, compiled by Katie Rooney.

While we don't know where most of the presidential candidates themselves will be today, we do know this much – several of them are leaving today's campaigning to their surrogates. Former Sen. John Edwards' (D-NC) wife Elizabeth has a packed schedule in New Hampshire, while Rep. Dennis Kucinich's (D-OH) wife Elizabeth is meeting up with supporters in Arizona. Even former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) is sending his campaign manager to South Carolina to do his dirty work. Are the candidates getting lazy? Or maybe they just needed a break from their weekend events. Read below to get more details on the candidates' whereabouts (or at least of those who are doing the work for them).

*Edwards' wife scours New Hampshire. In the morning the campaign will celebrate the opening of its Edwards for President office in Manchester, then Elizabeth Edwards hosts three conversations in the state throughout the day – one in Manchester, one on women's rights in Concord and a third over coffee in Portsmouth. She'll also attend a house party and a Save Darfur Coalition rally in the late afternoon/evening. Meanwhile, the actual candidate John Edwards will host a town hall meeting at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas at noon.

*Kucinich's wife will host a potluck meet and greet in Tucson, Arizona from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The campaign is encouraging supporters to bring a light supper dish such as salad, fruits or bread to share with the crowd.

*While we're not positive where Huckabee will be today, we know his campaign advisor Mike Campbell is publicly giving the South Carolina Republican Party a check for $25,000 to make sure Huckabee is on South Carolina's ballot for the GOP primary and that he's allowed to participate in the May 15 debate.

*New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) is one of the few who is actually out there himself: he'll hold a meet and greet at a coffee house in Carson City, Nevada in the morning, then meet with AFL-CIO leaders from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., have a conversation on Darfur at Carson High School from 11 to 11:45 a.m., meet with the Nevada Democratic Legislative Conference at noon and finally end the day with a rally in Las Vegas in the evening.

*Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) will spend most his day in transit, traveling from Chicago to Dallas to D.C., foregoing any public events along the way.
